feelin' short...

Hi y'all,
you know, I have been checking out the pics of other carbons in the gallery and am feeling short. I mean, it seems as if everyone's seatposts are waaaay longer than mine. Mine is slammed down alot compared to everyone else's. I know I've been down this road before, but I recently finished building my Giant HT (yes, assembled it myself, with a little help from borrowing tools from very nice LBS - used his tools and shop) and the seatpost on that bike is pretty up there like all yours.
I know the carbon K2's are pretty tall, but how tall are all you guys? Am I the shortest one here?
I am not quite 5'8".
have a nice day.

6'1" Tall - I drop my seatpost waaaaayyyy down! But, I rarely spend time in the saddle. Its usually too rough of terrain or too fast to be in the saddle for me!
But then again, I don't like to ride slow. [smiley=nod.gif]

Same here - 6'1". I need a 16" seatpost on my medium OZ... Means my 34" inside leg can really power those cranks!

Hey there Dennis,
I top out at 5'11" . My inseam is 32". Standover is quite good, I have my seatpost cut at around 10 inches or so.

Hey Dennis,
I'm 6'1" with a 34" inseam so I use a long seatpost,its what I'm most comfortable with.

Maybe I shouldn't post if you're not "up" to the info. Okay, that sucked. [smiley=disbelief.gif]
I'm 6'4", with a 36" inseam. I had to replace my 3000's original 330mm long seat post with a 350mm piece. It fits "perfect" and didn't even need to be cut to meet the frame's "minimum insertion" requirement.
My riding education follows the "slightly bent knee/plumb-bob from knee cap" approach, for seat post length setting. My (usual) riding technique and habits have me both standing and sitting, riding smooth and technical, and fast. There are some times when i'd like to have it a few inches shorter (the seatpost people, the seatpost!), but for the most part i'm in control and happy.
Wierd, my seat sits taller than the roof of some cars!!! (sorry, that probably doesn't help)
Can I ask how you determined the seat height you have now? I know my method is more common with the road crew, but it's the knees that you NEED to consider.

almost 6' 2", post gets dropped now for decents, if you are mostly downing it would be a wee bit lower than upping

I determine my seat height by placing my heel on the pedal to see if my knee locks. I raise until it does. Then when I clip in I get some bend at the knee. From there it is never moved as I don't ever lower on descents(my wife calls me a HAMSTERBOYWANNABE).

I am about 5'10" and have a 32 inch inseam.
Although, through the years, it seems I am getting shorter.
My medium OZ seems a hair tall, especially with a 8.5 rc. But I do not find it to be a real problem, Just a small hinderance on real technical uphill stuff when my feet hit the ground, like the Tahoe rim trail....

To answer questions about how I got my seatpost height, its the same way everyone else does it. slightly bent knee when clipped in, or just about locked knee when heel is on pedal.
by the way, as for those "height" comments, I am shorter in height (as far as foot to top of head) than all of you, and my inseam is shorter, or seems that much more shorter because maybe I'm "taller" where it really counts!!
btw, I am tall enough and my legs are long enough to reach the ground when I am standing.
just seems the Oz has a real high standover height when compared to other bikes. I have no problems with any of my 4 other bikes.
thanks for answering.
