I have a 7.7875" Fox Vanilla RC w/ 2.3" of stroke for sale for $160 shipped.
It increases rear travel to around 6" with the longer stroke. The reason for the change, I went with a 8.5" Vanilla RC b/c I had a longer travel front shock. You can see the shock on the bike in my gallery.

Any places to get a new one?
What about the 5th element?
Might be getting that used one 550.

k2chris, there are lots of posts on rear shocks and you will be pretty confused if you read them all ! I still haven't figured out what will fit on my med evo. I am running a van r and it works well, I can't seem to justify the expense but a swinger air or coil would work and be a great upgrade. that van rc is tempting me [see 5500 post] and you can get the propedal valving fitted to the old fox shocks I hear. I think it depends on the frame size, some shocks won't fit on small/med frames. I reckon you will need a 600 spring on a fox 2.3 shock, 500 will be a bit soft for your wt.
5500, what size frame did you have the rc on?
IMO if you've got 300/400 bucks to spend on a shock you'd be better off getting a new frame [smiley=disbelief.gif]

I just picked up a vanilla rc 8.5 i2i..........the seller said it was revalved a propedal at the factory.... is there a way to verify this without riding?
My local world is buried in snow . The streets still have 4-5 inches of snow on them, so a riding test is not possible right now.
Also the spring is a 500 x 2.8, around 6 inches of travel. Any tips on where to start when I dial it in?

Medium 5500c/OZ. It fit perfect with no grinding necessary. Although when I got my 8.5" I did have to grind the lower mounting plate.
