help me find a fork
« on: August 06, 2004, 10:16:25 am »
I need a better, lighter fork. Right now I have an old Judy Rock Shox on my 4500c. I saw this on clearance:

Marzocchi 2004 Dirt Jumper 1 QR20 – $395

- 110 mm travel
- Open Bath SSV damping
- Dual coil springs
- Mg FR monolite one piece arch & sliders
- Forged FR crown w/cryofit "M" design
- Single external rebound adjuster
- External air preload
- 32 mm steel stanchions
- 20 mm QR 20 Pro drop-outs

Is it a good deal? Does anyone know of something better for about the same price or less?

By the way, I'm about 6'2" 195-200 lbs if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Simon

Don't know if thats a good deal $ wise as I'm in the UK,
BUT ONE THINGS FOR SURE YOU'LL BE GAINING A LOT OF WEIGHT WITH THAT FORK,MARZOCCHI JUMP FORKS ARE BUILT FOR STRENGTH,THEY DO MAKE GREAT FORKS THOUGH.
Try looking for a fork a bit more XC (not nessarily ultra light) specific with around 100mm travel.

That fork is made for dirt jumping & would be a really poor match for a K2. I'd look into a Manitou Black or 100mm Marzocchi. Best deals can be found on E-Bay.

Not a good deal if you have to buy a new front wheel or hub (that's a thru-axle fork).

I'd say you could find a much better match for your frame. Stick with forks that have bigger stanchion tubes (30mm or bigger) because of your size, but other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about the strength. Aside from racing forks (like the RS Sid) most forks are pretty strong these days.  For $400 you can get a heck of a fork. Probably even a Fox if you look hard enough.
