help with hopey damper
«
on:

I know someone else out there has a hopey damper, but I can't remember who it is. anyway, mine has become unaligned with the centerline of the bike and I can't get it turned back in line. I have loosened the bottom 12mm bolt and upper 35mm nut, but can't turn bracket. does anyone know what else I may have to do?
thanks for any info anyone has.

The Hopey dampner is wedged into place when the 12mm bolt is tightened - same principle as an old quill stem. You should be able to free the wedges by loosening the 12mm bolt about 1 - 1.5 turns and give the socket & extension some taps w/ a hammer. You are loosening the wedges from the steer tube.

keen,
thanks for the info, I emailed Tim Hopey and he replied quickly with an answer, basically same as yours, except he also said to loosen pinch bolt on lower bracket to rotate it back into place.
thanks again for the info.
