Prototype
« on: June 23, 2004, 11:35:45 pm »
Hi guys, i bet you all thought i fell off the face of the earth.

Nah just been busy at work.

And when ever i put money aside for the bike i end up useing it for other things and the bike goes on hold once again.

I still have things comming in for the bike like a new set of wheels, 717 black rims, Hope gold hubs, Selle carbon saddle and Ti egg beaters.

Otherwise the bike is quite rideable and today it get's it's first ride in the rain >:( thats life.

You must ignore the build and look at the frame itself, the carbon used match's the weave used in the swinging arm,

I used too many layers this time and next time i shall only use two layers and the cables and brake pipes will have pipeing for routing through the frame.

As you see, there is no external seams for the glue to come unstuck and for the two halfs to work against each other and creak and groan :)

I used a full gloss lacquer on it but i must admit a satin colour would of been better.

The frame is nearly there and i now know where i have to go next time.

The swinging arm will be made out of Ti with bigger mounting points on the frame as well to reduce tail wag and sealed bearings will be used instead of bushings.

The rear brake boss's will be removed in favour of disc only and the mount for the disc will form an integral part of the arm and mount.

Also there will be a choice of mounting points for a longer shock and i will alter the frame for this purpose at the rear.

The seat post has always been our bane and now it has been made with an external leg inside the frame.

To those that are interested i have made some rear disc plates in carbon for those that want them, they can be drilled by me if you want or you can drill them and all you need supply is the collars and bolts.

These are free including postage, so its first come first gets.

I am also making some carbon crud catchers but these are still being kicked around the workshop until i am happy with the end result.

Are your forks the full carbon model?  They must have cost a trip!   :o

Any idea what your bike weighs now?

Cheers,

Hey guys.

Well i went for the ride and all was fine in fact the bike turned a few heads at the meeting place where all the bikers set out from.

Lets not miss the important point here it still looks like a K2 which as Simon said is what you guys want.

Like i said i used too many layers on this frame and so its not as light as i had hoped, but that wont happen again.

The fork is as Simon says a Pace it's got rebound and three air chambers and i am running it in at the mo.

Simon i hope to do the ride with you just let me know which of the distance's you are doing and i will enter that one.

And i will be bringing the bike with normal spd pedals so others can ride it.

Maybe i should call it after my handle (the little red Devil)!!!

The saddle i am using at the moment hurts my butt.

Whilst sitting here i am thinking about flatting back the frame and spraying it satin.

Some kid wants me to build him a trials bike in carbon.

You would be surprised how many measurements and adjustment had to be made.

You would have to do something realy nasty to crack this baby.

The trouble is today it looked so pristene and when its like this you dont want to get it dirty, well you should see it now , a little cleaning job for me tomorrow.

Question do i put stickers on it?
How about those tribol designs?

I know the upper rear shock mounting plates need finishing off.
Its on my to do list.
Bed for me, later guys.

I will be able to produce about 12 rear brake brackets maybe more.
Hey Simon you missed your true vocation in life to be a dragg queen comedian [smiley=laughing.gif]
Hey if you wear those old mans socks again on the ride i will take a photo of you and host it here
[smiley=nod.gif]
What about those upper plates for the rear shock is Nigel making anymore?
I found i need a couple more links for the chain because its too short.

Dominic,
that bike of yours looks massively stupendous!!
(can't find enough superlatives)
as for finish, I can't get over how a translucent color brings out the carbon weave (check my gallery to see what I mean on both my Oz and my Giant HT)btw, forget decals and that trendy tribal graphic thing, come up with a cool name and do a small logo, don't cover up the weave (my 4cents)

also, how soon can I get my Dom-inator? or is it Dom-flex?

great job, I am very impressed!!

Hey Simon, i thought i could get you then, ah it looks like i will have to wait.
Simon it looks like Dennis has also matched you idea for a name, perhaps i should use one of the ones supplied by Dennis.

Well guys i had a very interesting chat with a guy this afternoon about the frame and for the new build we are talking some silly weights here for a frame and swinger without loss of strength.
I cant say more at the moment but think of a decent lightweight hardtail 20/21lbs and your getting very close to what we discused. I hope so and if i can pull this off.
Nah
Just joking                                                                  (not)

Bikes follow a phase in what will sell best and what the customer wants isnt always what he gets.

Hey simon i had a look at that site regarding those bolts, i will be ordering some soon.
