K2 proflex 4000RS (99 evo frame) pivot bearings.
« on: October 21, 2007, 11:26:31 am »
Hi all, I am new to the forum, but have been in communication with colin regarding pivot kits. Unfortunatley, he cant be of any help in locating a kit for my bike. It is a 4000RS  99 Evo frame, the pivot bearings are Needle roller type.
Anywy, back to my point lol, Have any of you replaced these on this model frame? If you have, A) Do you have the dimensions for the bearings, B) Where did you get them from, C) if nobody has replaced a set yet and would like to, Colin sugested getting an order together for a few sets of them, to cut cost down, Postage and Impoort tax would be split between all those who want them. Then I will have to sweet talk Colin into maybee ordering them from his usual supplier (cheeky aint I  lmao).
Let me know your answers/opinions.
Cheers folks.

Welcome,

McmasterCarr.com has needle roller bearings.

If you can measure what you have got, they may have it.

P.s. Woody is in the UK.

I know Simon in the UK has done a bearing conversion on 856's, 857's and also an Oz, I think?

Maybe he can help.

Cheers Terry, as Colin says, I am in the uk.
I have considered removing the cages from the frame and measuring them, but they would damage on the way out, thus leaving me bikeless, something I want to avoid if poss. Good, logical solution though.
I will just pray that someone has done these bearings or has the size/number.
thanks for reply.
Cheers.

So any progress? I have a 2000 evo, the needle bearings are clamp in and working well. If yours are the same, they should just slide out. Are yours press in?

Inquireing mind.

Hi terry,  the bearings/needle rollers are press fit into the frame on my 400o, the only clamp part is to secure the pivot shaft to the swinging arm. I have had no joy in my search so far, so it is looking like a strip down and knock the cages out when the weather turns septic. As soon as I have got them out and measured, I wi be off to my local brearing suppliers to see if they can find replacements. If I have any joy, I will post the details on here, bearing number etc, that way, everyone who is lucky enough to own 1 of these beautifull machines can replace their bearings without any hassles.

If anyone out there HAS already done a bearing change can help still, I would greatlly appreciate any info.

Cheers folks.

I have the same frame and I've done the changed out the bearings twice.  It's so much fun.

The bearings are Torrington #B1010

And here's how I removed them the last time I did it.

Items:
All thread rod
2 nuts
2 washers
A long socket of similar diameter that allow the all thread to pass through
A PVC Coupling w/inner diameter larger than the bearing

1. Slowly tighten until the bearing on the PVC side pops out
2. Disassemble and remove bearing and spacer
3. Reassemble to remove the final bearing.
4. Grease the new bearings and I'm sure you figure out the rest.

Items laid out:

Assembled:

Ready to push 'em out:
