And you know what? That was a size small. If you look at the upper shock screw going thru the top tube, that indicates a small.

Hi guys, i dont know if its of any interest to anyone, but there's a guy in newcastle with a K2/Proflex Animal frame and shock which he's giving away for free. He posted up on southerndownhill forum.

here's what he said:

if anyone wants some free tyres, mostly xc, i have some.

4 for grabs

kenda, continetal and some other things...

anyhow, in centre of newcastle.

if you want them drop me a pm and you can pick them up.

have a free marin xc frame, big dent in it

also have a free proflex/k2 animal, its literally front triangle, rear and shock, no bearings or bolts

He's based in newcastle, and not willing to post it, but if anyone's in the vacinity then it might be worth your while picking it up.

I would be interested, except im in glasgow and its not worth the trip...

thats a odd bike...the 857 would have had a carbon swingarm,that looks like a 757 swingarm,and the forks look like they are vector legs on a crosslink linkage.....Not saying its not worth pursuing,...

Hmmm, right you are. Although the alum swingarms are competent, the carbon ones are lighter, and just as rigid. Would make a nice shiny bike project though.

Makes me wonder if the swing arm didn't get wrecked at some point...I broke the brake mounting stud on my 754's swing arm back around 1997 and this one looks exactly like the replacement that K2/Proflex sent...

...since the seller claims everything other than the fork and frame are completely shot, I would probably just transfer parts from either my 754 or Attack so that I have 2 complete bikes that don't depend on elastomers...

...it could definitely use some TLC, but if the price is right, it might be worth it. My wife doesn't ride hard anyway...

sorry i am wrong about the forks...perfectly legit looking crosslinks,may even have been updated as the x57s had girvin crosslinks I think

According to Bikepedia, Kiwi is correct. The orginal spec was a Girvin crosslink with a NR-2 shock.

The crosslink fork was used in the 757 (crosslink expert with NR1), 857 (corsslink elite with NR2) and 957 (Crosslink carbon with NR2). The 657 had a girvin fork with an ODS shock.
