replacing the shims of a crosslink
« on: June 01, 2004, 01:36:02 am »
Hi everybody,

A long time ago I decided the shims and spacers of my crosslink needed to be replaced. So I orderd the stuff (Thanks again CarbonAngus for ordering it for me and sending it to Holland (By the way Angus: over here we prefer Grolsch or Brand, or the Belgian Jupiler, or if we really can't avoid it Heineken)) but I never took the time to do the job. But now the time has come to really do the required maintenance.

My question is: are there Do's and Don'ts I really must know of, or do I just have to unscrew the thing, remove the old shims, put the new ones in and screw the thing back together again?

(I already have a copy of the Crosslink ownersmanual from the How Tos-section)

Greetings, Jeroen.

yeah, if you mean the bushings (plastic bits) it's just a take apart and put back together. the ones that share an axle might need to be taken off at the same time or just have another 5mm hex the keep it from spinning. don't over grease, excess is squished out.

the bearings...never done those, just the bushings or shims as you call them.

...Grolsch is good, Is Tuborg a Dutch beer? I remember drinking a few those at a young age...hehehe

Thanks CarbonAngus,

Tuborg is in fact Danisch. And If you still can remember you drank it in your younger days, you didn't drink too much and that's always wise (so even when you were young you were a wise man).

Jeroen.

its pretty straight forward.sort of job that sometimes a third hand could be handy,The last seal on each axle is a little difficyult to get.
