Though very happy with my Astro5 [smiley=nod.gif] has anyone tried on of these ???,the details/explanation make sense,
good or gimmick ???

I have a bachelors degree in physics form the University of Antarctica so this should be an easy one for me.
Sure I think it makes sense. When there is less air in the Cartridge The shock "ramp up" is more dramatic because the compression of the shock relies strictly on one variable... the preload (shock tension). When filling the cartridge with air you have added another variable. This variable (air) by nature has a steady compaction ratio. This means it will always compress in almost a linear fashion. If you add a spring in combination with the air any sharp spike during the spring’s compression is evened out. This is why you get a softer ramp or smother progressiveness.
The added benefit of having the reservoir rechargeable will be that it can offer more spring rate options and you will be able to change the amount of air volume to account for temperature changes.

Thanks I_2_ionit [smiley=beer.gif] might just get one,just ordered some replacement risse eyelet bushes from our risse importer/tuning agent,so enquired about the unit,they seem very keen on the principal,though they obviously have a vested interest,

would be very interested if someone had actually tried one,though as I_2_ionit says the principal works but has anyone noticed a difference/improvement using this unit,

thanks for the offer on your thesis but just the thought is giving me a headache [smiley=laughing.gif]

I was actually thinking about getting one for my crosslink.  It would provide a more linear spring rate - similar to a coil shock, so I should get more travel.

It would take some fancy hose routing to clear the linkages though.   :o

can you get more travel out of your x~link ???

i thnk it's like 2.7 inches limited by the linkage more than anything.

Hi Carbon.  I think I would get more of the usable travel.  When the genesis ramps up, it is very stiff at the end of the travel.  The extra air chamber would make it more linear, thereby allowing more of the travel to be used.

be interested in knowing...I still have an Nr-2 on my x~link (857 SS) it seems you can't really compress the fork beyond a certain point on an nr2 equipped x~link
