disc brake conversion

I have an old Trek 930 cromoly hardtail frame and fork that I am going to be turning into an onroad touring machine.
here is my question, has anyone ever heard of anybody welding disc brake mounts onto a cromoly frame or fork?
if so, how well did it work out?
if you have never heard of this, could you suggest a place where I might go for information?

It's very doable but it's more common to braze or silver braze the mount.
I had a 930 and it was a lovely bike. Climbed hills like a mountain goat on steroids. I traded it in for a bike wth discs myself and considered doing what you're planning for quite some time but the cost of all the bits and pieces to do it just did not make any sense when I could buy a whole new bike for not much more with discs already and a lot more upgrades.
I still fondly remember it though and often wish I had carried through with the mods. Good luck with your's.

Just out of curiousity, why would you need discs on an onroad touring bike?

I agree with you about the 930. it was my first mountain bike and the frame really fits me well, plus I have most of the other parts I need laying around from when I was gathering parts for my Oz.
Matno,
since you asked, I plan on doing heavily loaded touring on this bike, and since the trips may last a while, I want to make sure I can stop in the rain with a heavy load on the bike.

thanks for the info guys.
trevor, thanks esp. for the link to Strong bikes. the frame is currently on the way to them for the work.
getting fork and frame disc mounts added, a stiffening brace from chain stay to seat stay to strenghten the rear disc mount, and the canti mounts removed.
all for less than their listed prices for the just the two disc mounts.
they sound real nice and hopefully their work will be as good as they say.
