q for dual chainring people

Just wondering how many of you run dual chainrings on your rigs.
If you do, would you mind answering the following couple of questions:
1. what size rings do you use?
2. do you use a ramped/pinned larger ring? a bike shop once told me that if one did this, that the chain would always want to skip off onto the side where the large (third) ring would have been, true or not?

I've dumped the big chain ring in favour of a bash ring and had no problems, I've shortened my chain to try and make it less likely to drop the chain but thats all. dmc

I run a dual setup on my animal with no problems. I use shimano cranks and rings with a QRP toothfairy outer ring. 22-32-toothfairy. Just shorten your chain a bit.

I have used a MRP LRP which was okay but would drop the chain sometimes when backpedalling. It now has a similar guide that is home made based on the LRP but using a Risse roller. Works a lot better.
Just leave the 22/32 combo on there, add a bash plate and adjust your front der. so that it won't carry the chain to the missing big ring. Also shorten your chain a little as stated.

After my last long gnarly downhill, when I dropped the chain a zillion times,I have been researching the 2 ring/guide option and the Evil looks to be the best option. I have Hussevelt cranks and it is possible to use a 28-38 set up from truvativ with the Evil 2 ring guard/guide, I like the ratios but will probably stick with the 22-34 that I have already due to lack of cash!

I have used/use the dual ring setup on my Monkey and It works good, except you have no top end (slower).
1. I used the standard 22/32 combo on the Monkey. I tried to use a 22/38 setup but the chain will not shift onto the 38 because the swingarm gets in the way (sorry numnuts). Going to a 36 would probably work.
2. yes you use a ramped largeer ring. If you don't, your going to have one hell of a time shifting from your small to large. The ramps are only for shifting up to larger rings. So whatever shop told you that the chain would drop off because of using ramped rings is very ignorant and I would advise you not use them for advice or service any longer.
Personally, I now use 3 rings on my XC bike (K2 Flying Monkey). Since XC isn't all the tech here in So.Cal and I really prefer the top end. And I'd agree on the Evil/E13 chainguide they are the cats @ss.
