Would FOX AIR VAN FLOAT R 7 7/8(200mm) fit EVO
« on: February 28, 2003, 08:42:01 pm »
Hi do you know if FOX AIR VANILLA FLOAT R NEW 7 7/8 (200mm) would fit 2000 EVO 4.0 frame(Large Size)

I have NR-1  its about 209mm, do you think it's worth it to upgrade to FOX AIR VANILLA FLOAT R, and would it change Geometry By much? Also ?

Also is it possible to use that shock in Cross Link Forks?

Thank You.

I think you would have to spread the plates of the frame in order to fit the wide shaft of the Fox in there. I'm not sure that it has been done successfully yet (at least on this board!)
K2 5000 Large w/Avid discs, Bontrager Race Disc Modified wheels, Manitou Minute, Swinger 3-way
K2 5000 Med ("wife's") w/Avid V's, Mavic CrossLink wheels, Manitou X-vert, Risse Astro-5

it might work with teh shaft side up into the shock tower...

wether the bottom would fit into teh swingarm shock mount is another question...

if u can get it cheap enuf it would be worth trying...even thou its a air shock its seriously of better quality then the Noleen unit...

you slacken your headtube angle by a slim margin, but u wont really notice it, unless you REALLY enjoy super slow speed tight singletrack...

wont work in a crosslink thou...the stroke is no doubt to long... and you'll cuase damage to either the shock or fork when u actually trail ride it...

good luck...

Andy's done it.  Look up his email in the member section and ask him.  Based on the pic you'll probably have to do some filing. :o

ahah, wel there you go..

this Proflex owners group are sure a adventurous group...

i love it... most bike owners of other brands would just ditch their bikes when something like a shock goes south...

So you think it's worth to pay $30 for that. By the way it doesn't have lockout, so I guess i would be able to fit it with air valve on top.

Thank You for your help.

yeah for 30$ its defintly worth picking up, as long as the shock isnt leakng air..

make sure its in good working order, last thing u wanna buy is a leaking air shock... [smiley=furious.gif]

you'll still have to mount it shaft end up thou... the air chamber is WAY to wide to fit topside...

good luck.. take pics when u get it mounted...

Thanks. I meant I'm going to fit it upside down, but with air valve out, so i don't have to file the swingarm bracket like you can see in the picture

.

Thanks Again.

You guys should try www.auctionstealer.com.  It is totally free (you only get 10 auctions a month) but lets you bid in the last 10 seconds.  I've been using it for the past 2 months and sniped a ton of stuff for big savings.  I got my Avid discs, Manitou shock, and fox RC using it.  Worth it even though you give them your ebay password.  You get emails with confirmation of bids, so you should be able to catch any erroneous bidding.
