Noleen NR-5 SmartShock - self-service or sell?
« on: April 30, 2020, 10:31:57 pm »
Hi all. Have an NR 5 SmartShock that is in my crosslink, that has leaked all it's oil out. It looks new But the seals are given out due extreme age since I've only ridden that bike maybe 20 times.

Has anyone actually self-serviced any of the smart shocks? If so any tips on what is different than doing an NR2 service, provided you have a pump, needle, fork oil, and the Noleen service and seal kit?

The other alternative is simply to try and sell it as is as a collector item or fixer upper, and to get a viable length/stroke replacement new or used.

Used: (models under 100 on eBay)
Fox 210x55 air
RockShox 216x63 air
X Fusion O2 210x50

New:
DNM RCP 2/3 210x61 coil/oil+piggyback $92 shipped
DNM AO-38RC air 210x53 $92 shipped
DNM std coil/oil 220x60 $70-75 shipped

So weighing my options. If it were just an NR2 I'd just rebuild it.

Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

noleen still exists you know   ;D

Yes I already know. They charge $100 to service NR1,2,and 4, not including shipping both ways. NR5 is a different beast .

I intentionally did not mention them as an option as it costs the same money to get a new airshock from Asia, or a good used Fox/RockShox airshock, for the same money as a single factory Noleen service.

Even less if I rebuild myself. All I lack is the procedures/guide.

Does anyone have the factory Noleen Shock Service guide? Not the one in downloads, the official factory one....

That's great, would you be able to post/attach the photo here to the board so all can see? Or a link?

probably 5W-8W, 10W max. I have plenty of motorcycle 5WT fork oil that should work fine. Thanks
