after many many years of not having a proflex (i owned a 657 back in the day) i have managed to snaffle up at rebuilt 856 :-)
had to tighten up a few things but now happy again with the monkey motion.

a question though, how do you stop the topping out clunk on the vector fork and where would i be able to find an ODS shock for the rear....not just the coil?

I have an ODS rear shock with a DirtWorks medium spring on it. It will only fit if your strut has a flat top end, not the cone end.

i think that makes it an 855?*56 would have a cone end?

Yes Chris, it does look like an XP-X on first inspection doesn't it?
But I don't think so.............

I've owned an XP-X from brand new. The XP-? series were 1997 special editions of the last of the 856's and I'm pretty certain were were exclusive to the UK importers Ultrasport.

Here's mine with an NR-2 shock on the rear.

Whilst the swing arm and Vector look the right Blue for an XP-X, I don't think they are;
An XP-X in New Zealand? Blimey, that would be well travelled!
The stickers are wrong for an XP-X.
The fork is a Vector 1 and the XP-X had a Vector 2.
The shocks are standard 855 friction ones, not the ODS that were fitted to the XP-X.
If the strut is flat end then that implies 855 rather than XP-X which had the cone end strut.

No criticism of your bike implied! any PRO~FLEX being loved, rejuvenated and ridden is an excellent PRO~FLEX! <GRIN>

looks like the bottle mounts are different too, the xpx has them on the rear of the seat pin, 85x on the "downtube and inside "seattube"

Yes the frames are definitely different as 855/856 were designed for cantilever brakes and so have the sleeve through the frame for the brake cable, where as the XP-X was designed for V brakes so doesn't have the sleeve. Someone probably saw a XP-X and built your 855 in that style. Your 855 is a great looking bike.

What? you mean the "Yoofs" say that? Ha ha! I'll take that as a compliment then!

The bike looks a lot different at the mo'; Touring bars, Fournalles forks, disc brakes and Cyclocross wheels with fast road tires.
