Proflex 4500 restoration
« on: April 19, 2015, 10:48:54 am »
I bought this 4500 new in 99 I believe I specced it with Pace RC37 forks other than that standard, over the years it went through various forks, swingarm sealed bearing system, aluminium swingarm, disc brakes, wheel upgrade, component upgrades etc.
Eventually I made my Faux bar 856 and my son had the 4500, it was layed up as just a frame triangle around 8 years ago.
Anyway I decided it needed to be restored using as many components from its original era and using as many components that I still had laying around.

Spec
Pace RC36 carbon forks ( Bargain from ebay)
FSA Headset, new (Bargain from ebay)
FSA XC115 Stem (From the shed)
Hope Ti skewers (From the shed)
Risse Astro 5 shock (From the shed)
Pro Taper carbon Riser bars (From the shed)
Middleburn cranks (From the shed)
FSA BB (From the shed)
Attitude bike carbon seat post (From the shed)
XERO wheel set (From the shed)
WTB Ti Rocket V seat (From the shed)
Crank Bro SS Egg beater pedals (From the shed)
Hope mono mini F & R Brakes (From the shed, stripped and rebuilt)
Hope seat post clamp (From the shed)
X-Lite brake post blanks (From the shed)
Hope head doctor (From the shed)
XT rear mech (From the shed)
LX front mech (From the shed)
STX RC shifters (From the shed, stripped and cleaned)
New cables
Panaracer Fire Pro Tyres (From the shed)
Main frame triangle stripped the re-lacquered
New carbon swingarm with sealed bearing pivot system (From the shed)
Modified the rear disc brake mounting bracket that I'd made for the aluminium s/arm to fit Carbon arm
Weighs 27.8 lbs according to the digital scales, seems about right.
Just need bar end plugs, I had some but poor condition.

Absolutely great rebuild, love it, but I think you've been a bit economically reckless putting New Cables on it........<GRIN>

Great to see another "plastic bike" rebuild on here!

still got to get my OzM rebuilt.......maybe this autumn...................

Lovely looking build and it's got me thinking I might de-badge mine as the clean carbon look does look good!
Out of interest what length is your rear Risse shock. I bought an Astro 5 from a former member on here for mine but it's a 200mm a drops the rear end too low. I changed it out for a Fox RP23.

From memory without actually going out and measuring it I'm pretty sure 209mm is the correct length
