1995 Proflex 955 Build
« on: June 18, 2014, 02:47:56 am »
Hi Guys

Thought I would start a build thread. I recently brought a 955 and have stripped it back down to the frame and swing arm.

This is what I started with.

Had full XTR M900 which is in the process of being sold. to fund the frame. Keeping the forks pictured but not for this build.

Most of the bits came off pretty easy, the bottom bracket proved to be a pain but ended up coming out after a stern talking to with a hacksaw. Will upload a pics of what the thread looks like. I suspect that it was put in dry which is a little strange given the expense that went into the rest of this build back in the day.

Huh? Where did the disk tabs go?

Ah Ha! You sneaky so and so, you've obviously got two pairs!

And Hang On!...... that's a different frame as well!..............in fact,....... it's "Spokes"s Way Big!...............Who you trying to con? <GRIN>

Hmmmm, dry assembly, yes, in my experience new bikes are assembled "dry" in the factory and so the best advice I give to anyone is a full strip down, grease and re-build (of the bike that is, but other options could be interesting!)

The worst siezed components I have experienced have been factory dry assembled dissimilar metal components that have galvanically corroded, with that BB being a case in point!
