Keep an eye on this seller in the USA, he often has various RK kits for sale,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_nkw=RK&_sacat=0&_odkw=RK00&item=400419560059&pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&_osacat=0&hash=item5d3add9a7b&_ssn=crosslakesales
you need the RK008 kit,

as long as you don't have the needle bearing version, e.g. 4000RS or later EVO models, which use the RK012.

Disregard the high postage cost to the UK (if that's where you are) and contact them direclty for a more reasonable quote.

check these instructions/diagrams to make sure you're getting the right kit
http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/MGalleryItem.php?id=298
http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/MGalleryItem.php?id=290

Note to all: I have now sold the last of the RK kits that I imported into the UK a few years ago.

The fellow selling the bushing kits on ebay is charging two dollars more for them now.  Still a very good bargain considering any alternatives.

If the bushes are worn then you will need this kit. However, if they just need cleaning and regreasing and it is the X ring seals that need replacing, I buy those locally from a industrial seal supplier. I think they costed about 40 pence each and were off the shelf. As for the grease, any silicon based grease will do.

As you may be able to tell im a bit of a newbie with these bikes but its just in my nature as a hands on do it yourselfer so I appreciate the help

No, there are no metal parts included in the RK008 kit.
I guess you mean parts 6, 10 and 11 in the 1998 EVO FRAME ASSEMBLY diagram below?
6 15709 1 PIVOT AXLE, RIGHT
10 15064 2 PIVOT FACE INSERT
11 15708 1 PIVOT AXLE, LEFT THREADED
If you're missing them then you have a more challenging problem to overcome as I have never seen them available as spare parts.

Definitely agree with Chris on this, I've never had to use a bearing kit on any of my bikes, except on a badly abused x56 that passed through my hands several years ago, but what I have found trashed is the X-rings that get trapped and pinched during reassembly if one is not observant.

So, Chris, what's the spec on the X rings to ask for?
or if you're passing that way, grab me a half a dozen and I'll send you some beer vouchers.

well, I expect you could get some machined up, ask me nicely and I might measure them up for you........<GRIN>

Dunno what the material should be, anyone got any ideas if it's anything exotic?

Very kind of you but not necessary. I have two other 5500s with the same swing arm. I'll try to find a swingarm or just take them out of my bike and give them to my local machine shop to duplicate. Great idea...thanks again for all of ur help

They are machined from aluminium and then anodised to give them a wear resistant coating.

I think you will find thay are either hard  anodised or teflon coated ,not just anodised too soft ,use the same dimentions and make it out of stainless steel .used it on my XP-X with needle roller bearings no problem  ;)

Maybe I'm just lucky, but the original swingarm bushings on my 756 are still pristine after 16 years of regular use. I use the factory-supplied grease from a rebuild kit, and I rotate the bushings after cleaning them so the clamps don't keep digging into the same spots on their outer surfaces. I tighten the clamps just enough that the swingarm slowly droops under its own weight, with the shock and strut disconnected. The original bushings are still mirror-smooth inside.

The strut bushings were a different story. They never did fit properly, with the anodized-aluminum inner races fitting too snugly to be able to rotate inside the nylon bushings. I jammed the inner races onto the end of my Dremel, used it to spin them like a lathe, and used emory paper to sand them down (removing most of the anodizing in the process) until they were narrow enough to rotate easily inside the nylon bushings. Then I reassembled the strut pivots. The strut pivots much more easily now, but it has no play.

My 756 uses plain O-rings. I doubt the X-rings really offer significantly better protection, since it's a pivot and not a sliding joint, which means the edge of the O-ring doesn't need to be able to scrape debris away in the first place.
