PROFLEX XPX X WORKS
« on: January 19, 2013, 04:20:54 am »
Hi Guys,
Just joined group as dusting off my old Proflex XPX X WORKS (red and blue)
Realy could do with some help with locating spare parts......I'd quite like to do away with the old elastomers and convert to springs and also need to replace the magura hyrdraulic brake pads (non disc)
Can anyone please help? I'm in love with this bike and now the kids are older i want to get back out in the wilderness on it!
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated:)
Thanks in advance
ADE

Hi Ade, I`m so glad your still in love with your XPX I`ve had mine from new and still love riding or just looking at it, I still have yet to ride anything that will eek out that last little bit of grip on a climb when all around are floundering.
Ebay seems to be the standard place to get parts like spring replacements pads for brakes etc though if you need advice you've arrived at the best place there isn't a part big or small that someone here wont know about, in my own opinion you may be better off if you plan to spend any length of time riding the XPX look at getting the Reise shocks for it its something I wish I had done a long time ago.
Do what you need to have to keep it riding, bits will give up and bits will creak and break, fix them as you go and try to ignore the fact that the rim brakes are only there to give you something to fiddle with as you head toward a crash and love the fact that wherever you ride and however much the folks you ride with have paid for their bikes when you park up for coffee and cakes at a trail centre the one people what to look at ask about is yours.
Cheers and all the best, Tel.

Welcome Ade.
Do some searches on past posts for any info you need as its all on here. Magura's brake blocks can be bought no problem from any of the on line retailers such as Chain Reaction, who are pretty cheap as well.
There is a shop on eBay selling spring conversion kits for proflex. Just type Proflex into eBay and it should come up. Likewise if you find you need any rebuild kits they are all on eBay.
Glad your still in love with your ride and even better that you're getting it back out on the trails. One thing you'll find about this forum is that we are all Proflex enthusiasts and willing to help out a fellow member. Welcome aboard.

Hi Ade,
I run an XP-X, see my various posts about that bike.
As the guys say, Magura Brake pads should be no probs as many Trials bikes use them:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=895
Get the right colour/compound for your wheels/weather combination and I have found them to be very good for stopping power!

and yes, long term, maybe you should consider replacing the shocks completely, but I have run ODS shocks with coil springs for years and they allow the bike to perform completely adequately.

I have a small number of "top hat" spring conversion kits available for the ODS shock. please note not including the spring which you'll need to source separately, but I can help with dimensions and spring rates etc.

PM me if interested.
