I'd like to know all about the Risse affect?

Hello peeps, been out of the game for some time with a knee injury, but now I'm hoping to rebuild my 856 as a lightweight singletrack hack bike. I'm pretty sure my ODS is knackered, so I started thinking about a risse...

What is the affect of Risse air shocks on proflex 856, 857 series bikes? Are they heaps lighter than the ODS? what about the suspension action, is it improved much?


just wondering if anyone had any experience with the mod'?

I have a genesis on an 857 style frame. It came with an NR-1 that was dead...Risse's may squeak (a little) for a few rides, other wise been happy. Don't know about the weight difference between the ODS and a Risse The astro 5 and terminators are supposed to be real sweet.

I have Risse genesis front and astro 5 on the back on my 857 and I find it has made it a firm ride. They are light but not as plush as the old Noleens.

Diggin this topic out, will this shock fit a x57 frame?

Seller says it's stamped April '95 on the shock body, but the cone shaped end seems just like the 957 strut.
I remember reading about the x55 and some x56 frames needing a freedom plate on the end of the shock, which this one doesn't seem to have.

I looked at mine and the x57 strut is longer than the x56 but the cone is the same so it should work.

In the risseracing site, the x57 shocks have different part numbers than the x56 shocks, so I don't want to fit the wrong shock on the bike and change the geometry.

1995 seems very early for this shock, but I don't know risseracing history...

If it weren't for custom charges on shipping to Europe, I would consider a new shock with a custom damping directly from Risse.

Comparing the lengths of ODS and GDT shocks (x56 bikes) with Noleen NR-2 and 4 shocks (x57 bikes) results in my finding that they are all the same length.
That is 196mm, from eye centre to end of shaft/end of strut interface.
So maybe Risse are just distinguishing between "cone end" and "flat" strut fitting?

Maybe so.
But in April 1995 should be a time were there were no x56 available bikes, and they only should fit a flat end shock.

Apparently, the shock has everything to fit a x57 bike.
A bit expensive, I think.

I think I read on here somewhere the cone started showing up on the later x55s. I would agree with Colin the lengths are the same, I have a Risse on a x57 and it is the same length as the ODS on the x56.
