Hydraulic brake lever question
« on: March 21, 2012, 06:28:28 pm »
Hello all,

Not sure if anyone out there has experience with the CNC'd replacement levers that Altek made for Magura hydraulic rim brakes back in the 90's...but I have a set in need of some new seals. These are o-rings...square cross section, one very thick, one thinner...that fit onto the plastic piston actuated by the lever.

Do any of you have suppliers you'd recommend for such a part? What are the odds that I'd find something compatible at my local Home Despot?

Many thanks in advance, oh knowledgeable ones :-)

Maybe the seals are the same wether they are Altek levers or standard Magura ones?
Magura always seemed very good for spares whenever I needed any.
Maybe give them a try?

Hmmm, I'll have to check...to be honest, if the bores were the same I'd love to just install some new Magura pistons, but I can't imagine they'd be exactly the same diameter...seems like wishful thinking. I essentially bought this set because of the silver anno perches (to replace the red perches from the other set I have installed on the 956).

I'll let people know what I find out...thanks!

I would check with the industrial supply companies to find the o-rings compatible with your application.  You'll need ID, OD, thickness, shape and chemical environment to make your choice.

There are other suppliers as well that may be more local to you.  I also use Morse supply and Johnstone supply.

Magura have a really good forum section with employees to post replies, so I suggest you post on there, they are very helpful.
