What should I replace on my rebuild? (957)
« on: May 22, 2010, 12:58:22 pm »
I am rebuilding up my 957 and interested to know what would be good to replace whilst there.  Is there anything that wears out?  I read something about the main swingarm bush elsewhere, so think I should perhaps get a new one of those?  But where from?

You can't get new metal parts anymore, only nylon and rubber parts. The metal parts are anodized aluminum though, so it takes a hell of a lot to wear them down.

There is a seller on US ebay that has some of the service kits. Shipping can be high for just one item but if you buy several or go in with someone else that can save abit.

I think my actual rear shock is OK.  It might be a case of me just putting the bike together and see whats what.

Thanks for the link Willie_B, I think my 857 is a keeper, so I figure it's better to get spares in ready for when I need them.
The shipping isn't that bad, especially if you buy a few of the spares kits (like a full bikes-worth), it's only £'s, not ££££'s, and if it will keep my Proflex going for another 13 years then it has to be worth it in my opinion :)

Also be aware of import tax (VAT) and collection fee of maybe £10 that will be added on if the total of the item and postage is over £16

Yeah, I'm all too aware of import taxes/vat/royal mail handling fees having bought car bits and pieces from Japan & the USA before ::)
still, should be worth it, unless anyone knows of a UK source for the parts?

Helps to declare stuff as "gift" though :D

I got a $1200 clutch kit from the US for my car as no domestic clutch supplier could tame its power, but had a friend in Maine send it as a $20 BBQ set.  God knows how much that saved me.

That's a lot of clutch.  What are you hooking to the pavement?

No, I Imported a load of spares a couple of years ago from Iron Horse and I only have a couple of RK008    4000/5500 Pivot Kits left.

I am struggling to get joy on some proflex 957 stickers, despite a couple of leads.

Re: my car - I drive a "nearly" 300bhp 1.9 TDI, with way over 400 lb/ft of torque, so needed the best clutch I could possibly get - especially after cooking my previous "400 lb/ft" clutch on the drag strip. :D

I'm not putting out that much torque but then I don't have a clutch.  There is a 9.5" bracketmaster non-lockup converter on the shelf though.  http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/w2zero/64%20Fairlane%2062A/?start=all

I don't know if you have tried Gil at Cycle Shed or not, but he has done a full set of 855 stickers as well as a full set of AMP B5 sticker for me. His email is gil@thecycleshed.co.uk

His price is very reasonable, but he is a very busy person so sometimes he takes a day or so to get back to you.

This link is proving quite fruitful at the moment  ;D  Had a proof emailed to me today and the 957 stickers look spot on like the originals.
