856 with LTK
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:17:12 am »
Well I took delivery of the long travel 856 frame today and was pleasantly surprised. Its filthy dirty but the frame is basicly in very good condition. The left side of the frame has more general marks on it than the right but all the frame transfers are in very good condition. The only marks are a few cable rubs and some scratch/chipping on the top tube near the head tube and the transfer on the LHS swing arm is rubbed a bit. There is some side movement in the pivot so I'll investergate that but there doesnt apear to any cracks anywhere. The only part Im missing is the rear strut but a bonus is two of the gold cable ferruls are still there and a XTR front mech.
The LTK looks as if its had very little use with no scratches to the aluminium or transfers.
Im give it a good wash this weekend and check the pivot out but to state the obvious im stoked! And its red!

Any one got a spare strut they want to sell?

Has any one got the contact details for the ex-proflex guy who was selling a load of new old stock spares a while back? There was a thread going and from memory he had alot of trouble with his broad band so was slow to get back to people. Did he have anything left, ie a strut?

it was ukreg<at>aol<dot>com

no idea what happened as he went very quiet. He wasn't that far from me - I would have loved a rummage but it was hard to get in touch. Looking forward to pics when you finish the project.

is it one of my old LTK's?  I'd be interested in seeing a picture.  I have loads of LTK9596 struts left somewhere.

@spokes

that LTK is amazing condition.  in fact, it can't have been used much.   one thing to note though is that the two sets of struts should be parallel - in the photo, one looks a little different to the other.  i can only imagine that they weren't attached to the long bolt in the photo.

use a F. hard spring.  shout if you want collars (I have boxes of them).

Yes your right callum the top bolt is missing and the struts are not attached at the top,hense the different angles.
It is like new though so I dont think it has been used much.
What fixings do I need to attach the top of the struts to the frame,ie washers,shims,bolt etc
