Does a source exist for replacement pivots?
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:26:57 am »
I'm not talking about the nylon bushings, I'm talking about the aluminum parts that the nylon bushings fit onto. Anyone know of a person, place, or thing that has spares?

I saw RDS' stuff and the rebuild kits and a couple complete bikes, but no loose structural parts. Do you have a specific link you were looking at?

Oh, you are talking about the swingarm cups. Pretty hard to come by. But not too hard to reproduce.

No, they don't look terribly complicated -- but I lack both the necessary SolidWorks license and the CNC machine and the anodizer and and and and...

...so I was hoping they were still for sale somewhere.  :)

Are the parts the same between an 857 and an Oz?  I did the bearing conversion on my Oz and still have the parts I took out.

I don't know, honestly. All I know is the cups on the 857 are a lot beefier than the ones on my 756. They look like they're the same as the ones on the 4000, anyway.

Does the OZ have the trademark Pro-Flex strut, or does it have a normal double-eyelet shock?

Yes, they are.

I may be wrong, but all the carbon swingarms used the same pivot parts.

I wonder if K2 has any parts left that work on OZ frames. Anyone know?

You mean the Pivot Axles don't you?
Parts #6 and #11 in this diagram:
http://idriders.com/proflex/coppermine/albums/userpics/10284/98carbonframeassembly.pdf

K2 don't stock spares any more, they sold them all to Iron Horse and I got a complete spares list off of them 2 years ago and there were none of these left.

What's happened? Have the Nylon Bearings (part #8) worn out and allowed wear on the Pivot Axles?

Maybe someone who has done the sealed bearing conversion would be willing to provide a pair?

Yep, those are the parts.

Nothing went wrong; hell, I'm still using the original bushings on my 756 which I've been riding for 12 years now, and they show no signs of wear that can't be compensated for by cinching down the clamp bolts a wee bit. I'm asking because someone was nice enough to donate most of a medium 857 frame to mix-and-match with the large 857 frame that I bought, but I figured, hey, why not see if I can get replacements for the missing parts and have two 857 frames at my disposal?
