Proflexes out and about :-)
« on: January 31, 2010, 01:41:13 pm »
Went on a Retrobike.co.uk group ride today and of the 15 riders there were 2 Proflexes (rarely any normally). I nearly took mine, but didn't in the end. If I'd known there were others I would have :) There was an 856 and an 857 both in red, both with Crosslinks / Vectors. If I'd brought mine that would have been an 855 with Vectors  ::)

Nice photos. Good to see shots of people riding.

What does the snow and ice do to you chain and cassette? Is it bad for them?

it's not bad for them long term, but as you cycle the snow gets compacted into ice down the gaps between the sprockets and the chain starts skipping

Closest I have come to riding in the snow was racing DH in a blizzard. It wasn't settling on the track though, just the surrounding ground so it dodn't impact on the bikes, other than the suspension feeling a bit off at the start of runs.

Utah powder doesn't hurt your chain or gears.  However, slush will collect and freeze on the rear cluster causing loads of fun.  I have a few snow ride pictures with my Oz in my gallery.

This Saturday is the annual Frozen Hog race.  Usually a snow bound event.  I might race with my 5000 this year.  Time to kill?  Go to utahmountainbiking.com for a link.

Rather than start another thread with pics, here is some more shots of Proflex's out and about, this time at the Sydney 24 Hour this weekend.

Very very wet race. Dangerous at times and the track was temporarily closed at night due to a river essentiually running down the most technical section of the trail. The mud mix had a lot of clay and sandstone in it and people were using full sets of pads in a lap. Seems metal pads last a bit longer as I got through the weekend with two sets.

More photos on the trail coming when my team mates bother to actually send them.

The bike was awesome, hopefully I have some more shots of the technical sections. The bike was great on the steep rocky sections. The back end was maybe a little too firm on sections of washedout fire road where you were crossing a lot of rain ruts at speed. I am going to send the shock away to be tuned though.

The bike climbs like a goat and ate up the climbs.

Unfortunately because of the mud she is being stripped and completely rebuilt this week.
