Proflex 856 color combos
« on: October 09, 2009, 05:54:19 pm »
I was just wondering if anyone out there knew about the different colors that were available for the ProFlex 856. All that I ever see on line is the red and titanium/silver colors. I have a purple frame with yellow decals on my 856 and am wondering why i don't see many in that color. Its probably because its purple isn't it. Perhaps not a popular color? Figured that may be why. Any comments are appreciated.

I always the purple (or is it grape) one looked quiet good. I've seen a blue one as well. Red certainly seemed to be the most common though.

Nice. I think it is grape now that you mention. i was just wondering because I found an old 1996 proflex catalog and the grape was not even mentioned as an option. Wondering if they just sold that color in certain markets. For example, was that a color that was only distributed in the US or was it sent out to all markets?

I've only seen red and blue frames for the 856 in Australia.

The purple and grey I only know of through photos.

Depends on how far you want to stretch the "856" tag...............

'Cos the x56 Frame was re-badged several times and presented in a few colours...........

Here's some I've seen:
Model - Frame - Swing Arm
657 - Ti Grey - Black Arm
657 - Black - Black
756 - Blue - Silver
856 - Blue- Silver
856 - Red - Silver
856 - Ti Grey - Black
856 - Red - Silver
Animal - Blue/Yellow - Yellow
Animal - Red/Black - Yellow
Beast - Green - Silver
XP6 - Orange - Black
XP8 - Gold - Black
XPX - Red - Blue

Any More?

Phew! I'm worn out now! Just done the Hackleton Roman Challenge, only 32 Miles, but suffering from a bit of a cold it was hard work.
On the plus side, the missus just showed me a lot of bare thigh! But it was only to show off her bruise from her "involuntary dismount" on the ride! <GRIN>

you've got 856 - Red - Silver twice ;) I'll put it down to your tiredness!

According to my catalogue, the Beast is Blue Green Fade and the Animal is Killer Bee Fade!

Has anyone else seen a purple/grape and sliver swing arm combo with yellow badging on an 856? Thanks for the info by the way. Good stuff!

Yep.
Mine 856 is Purple/Grape with yellow badging. It would have been finished and back on the trail a long time ago but I got side tracked with an OZx project. Not that Im am complaining of cause. Both will be finished soon I hope.

Does anyone know where the grape/purple 856 was sold? Although it was not in the 1996 manual as a possible color, my understanding is that there are quite a few out there. The person I purchased if from "scampbell" was told that it was purchased in Chile by a buddy of his who used to race for ProFlex. Any info on this would be great. Trying to decide if I want to paint it or not. Was the purple/ grape only sold in specific places? Was it only given as an option for racers? I have no idea. Should I keep it original....in terms of paint? Too late for components.

Well I bought my 856 frame off fleaBay. It came from California and has a sticker on it with the shop address:

LO FAT CYCLES, Mountain bike pro shop, 26111 YNEZ RD, C-11, TEMECULA, CA.

Anyone know this shop?

Its got a shiney laqueured finish with a fine metalic flec in the purple with solid yellow lettering. I dont know if the colour was called purple or grape on an 856 but it is a totally different colour to the grape colour that is on the 857. The 857 in grape isn't a metalic and has a satin or semi gloss finish. Im sure its a darker shade as well.

Yeah the purple/grape on my proflex 856 does not have a metalic paint job nor does it have any flake. Its a matte type of paint job. It sounds like it's a bit different than yours. Anywho, I think I have decided not to paint the bike for now. At least not until I find out a bit more info on it. Thanks all.
