Hi, newbie here - just started a 856 rebuild, details are over on retrobike (under the same user name) :-)

My first question is on the Vector II forks , can the riveted brake bosses and canti bridge be removed just by drilling the rivits out ? They look like the may be glued to but not sure ...

Second question is on the u shaped bridge that compresses the damper - can the steel bush that supports the damper shaft be removed ? I can't decide if it is just a press fit and I can tap it out or if it is loctited in there for good ?

I thought the bushs were plastic. That is what is in this kit.

The central one - it's hidden when the bike is built under the bottom rear spring cup. Can we post pictures on here ?

OK, the bush is out :-)

It's a conical bush that's split so when you tighten the damper it pulls down into the taperd recess and grips hard.

Now I just need to find out about the fork bosses ...

Am I right in thinking that to completely rebuild this I need a RK002, 5 & 6 kit ?

Ok, for referance / people reading this in the future - I have managed to get the brake bosses and bridge off the fork. They were glued but the glue was weak and broke easily once the (steel) rivits were drilled out. The glue left on the fork / bosses picked off very easily ...

Rivit size is 1/8" or 3.2mm, I will be replacing these with stainless during the rebuild.

Did you remove the parts to make the refinishing easier or because you're reversing the fork legs?

Just for refinishing

The legs are going black, the brackets in ano and the canti bosses are staying as they are. They are cast so I don't know what they will anodise like - they are also in good condition already so don't need tarting up

Do you have a source for the "Girvin" stickers (left and right) with the integral American Flag device for these Vector 2 forks? I've located one supplier who can do the wording in the right proportions, but without the flags.

Not yet - but I haven't really looked. I was relying on gil m of retrobike sorting them out, he seems to have a good rep for retro stickers
