Shock help - OZ/x500

I'm tyring to complete the build of my carbon beast and the rear shock is the final item to purchase. I have a spare 8.25" Swinger but the Nolieen that came on it is closer to 8.75" and I'd have to make an adapter or shave some metal on the bottom mount for it to fit the swinger upside down. Anyone know of a modern 8.75" shock I can get that won't require any modifications/adapters?  I may just use the noleen and buy something in 2011 when I return from Iraq. This sucks, I've had the frame for 2 years and just now building it up. I'll get to enjoy it for about 2 months.

nothing wrong with a funtional Noleen

FOX makes some good shocks when you return in 2011 drop a PM and i will set you up. i am close to their HQ in Watsonville.

8.75 i2i seems a bit long for a Noleen. But whatever works. What type Swinger is it, air, coil?

My 8.5 coil 4 way fit perfect at the top, and I filed some grooves into the spring cap to straddle the mount at the bottom, along with grinding the spring a tad.

209mm is the correct standard I2I length for an Oz Noleen shock, i.e about 8.23"

The only 8.25 i2i Swinger I know of is an air 3 way custom made for Trek. It should bolt up just fine upside down.

You may want to measure things again.

Thanks for the advice. Yes the 8.25 Swinger 3 Way was for the Trek. When a guy was unloading a ton of these a few years ago I bought one for my 99' 4000 (and he sent me 2  , a little dishonest of me I know), and it does fit upside down but you have to shave a little off the swingarm mount for it to fit.

The Noleen that shipped on it, is an NR2 with an aluminum block on the base. I'd upload a photo, but I appear to have lost my camera, bugger.

I don't advertise it - but I have machined bushings for sale that allow a modern shock to be fitted to a carbon frame - i.e. so you don't have to fit hundreds of washers etc.

I just ordered the bushings for the swinger, and all I'll have to do is shave a mm off the two at the top. I've decided to modify the lower mount and fit it upside down on my 4000.

Just got my Rohloff setup last night with the hammerhead and disc mount. I had to do a little filing here and there, but nothing too drastic. Should have the bike assembled next week and photos posted soon after. Just wish it weren't so dang hot in TX.

yeah, I got some bushings made for the carbon bike so you can fit a modern shock, like a fox rp32.  I was going to get the designs finished for the x57, x56 but have been a bit busy at (real) work lately.

Is OP around? I'd love to see a photo on how he mounted his Rohloff cables and brake cable on his 856. There's a great shot of the Rohloff in a previous post, but it doesn't show how he fastened the cables to the swingarm. 3 cables is a lot.
