What size stem does the girvin fork take?
« on: November 22, 2008, 05:30:05 pm »
Just looking at the headset it looks like a 1 1/8 inch, but when I tryed to replace the stem that came on my fork with a 1 1/8 inch it was too big, so, I assume girvins take a 1 inch stem? Is this correct?

It's a 1" steerer but a 1 1/8" stem with a reducer, it should be sat inside your old stem.

Well, I think the stem thats on the bike now is a 1 inch because I dont have a reducer.

Ok sorry about that, looks like the earlier x56 came with a 1" stem and the later ones like mine with 1+1/8", my original stem was fitted with Vector AL ( not crosslink ) and is a 1+1/8" with a reducer, the bike is dismantled for re-furb at the moment but this is what it looked like before, image taken from bikepro.

with yours having the same suspension as mine I thought it was the same spec, anyway what you need to fit the 1+1/8" stem is a reducer like this one, try your LBS.
