How much should I pay??

Hi proflex guys, this is my first post but i've been riding my stock 856 for the last 5 years!!
I've got a few questions about the later frames... Are they any better? does moving the pivot forwards, and making the carbon swingarm improve the ride over my 856?
just thinking of buying a proflex 857 frame and noleen forks, what should I look at paying? it's in pretty good condition, no gouges etc.
also how about a stock K2 4000 bike, i've found one locally, what d'you think this is worth £££?£?
Many thanks in advance, Bohngy

IMHO I'd keep the 856 and upgrade the suspension,
for a good condition 4000 I'd be willing to part with
£250 to £300 ,not saying thats the going price just what I'd be willing to part with.

Hi Bohngy,
Your 856 was cream of the crop 11 years ago in full racing form. A few upgrades like suspension and tires would put it right up there again.
Simon is right, as always. A risse rear shock, and 4 inch travel light air fork with lockout, would do the trick. Then some continental supersonics, with stans no-tubes, and you got a rocketship. The big changes to my 957 has been with suspension. What a difference.
I would not buy the 857 as a frame unless it was for a backup to your 856. The 4000 strutless as a full bike would be nice, but you will probably want to go thru the whole ugrade thing too.

I've got a 657 short swingarm and a 957 long swingarm and I don't think the swingarm length noticeably changes the ride.
I'd echo previous two replies and spend any money on upgrading your current bike. The top end running gear does make a difference to the ride.
cheers

light wheels and really good brakes transform a bike, assuming the rest is in good condition.
