Just got the Risse today and the adapter doesnt look quite right. My NR1 had a cone that went into the strut. The Risse has a flat surface, with nothing to fill the cone void in with on the strut of the frame. I assembled it as given, and it rides, but is this right?

Isn't there some sort of adapter/ or plate that has to be ordered with a cone style strut?

(i thought I read that somewhere).

Ah yes, I think it is called a freedom plate. Don't know much about it though.

check with risse if you have a x56 bike you need the freedom plate adapter

Noticed while I sorted out ordering one for mine.

The bike looks sweet. Did you get the frame resprayed? If so were did the new decals come from. Mine are peeled in places and I could go for complete removal but I'd rather wear the badge with pride.

OK, I did buy the freedom plate, but that does not fill the cone space in the strut. The fixing bolt goes through the strut and into the cone space into the freedom plate / shock assembly. It may be right, I just thought it would have a cone on it so the bolt was reinforced throughout the shock / strut.

Kiwi / Ade, is this the same with yours?

It is the origional paint, just very unused. It was sold to me as a "uninterested wifes bike". The P on the non drive side is starting to peel though.

Maybe you need the cone type eye. I think you are OK, but a call to Risse may be in order.

the risse i got from Harv(I wonder whats happened to him) that he had on his 957 has the freedom plate,which just sits flat on the top of the strut without using the "cone" i dont know what the difference is between the x56 and x55 strut that makes the adapter necessary on the 56 strut.I have also wondered if an x57 shock would fit the x56 strut making the adapter redundant.I have emailed Risse twice about this but never got a response.So if anyone out there has a x57 and a x56 try the 97 shock on the 96 bike and report back,then any prospective risse buyer can be told to get the 97 shock and do without the extra adapter.

I can tell you that an 856 and 957 uses the same cone type strut, and the GDS,ODS,Noleen shocks will fit. The only other difference could be the old style sponge(elastomer non oil strut which I will check.

It is Shovel + On. A carry over from my shovel crafting venture.

The elastomer strut is the same cone type mount. So all of them work.

Thanks for the advice guys. Worked like a charm for 20 miles of Florida (root infested) singletrack.
