got the 957 built
« on: March 04, 2007, 03:01:40 am »
Well, sold the m/cycle and got the 957 built by my lbs. (Shameless plug: George Halls in Market Harborough near Leicester)

Got ti Hope hubs, ti tyed died spokes and sunset rims wheelset second hand on ebay but did the rest new. XTR rear mech and shifters, xt chainset, Avid single digit brakes with Avid levers. Thomson seatpost, Fizik Gobi saddle, Easton EA70 stem and mid-rise bars, Fire XC 1.8 tyres.

Went out this morning and it rides very nicely. Big grin.

Got some pics to put in this post but the insert image button is not working for me and can't copy and paste. Any ideas?

cheers
Ade

Second that Ade, I am dying to post some 856 frontal shots... From what I have read, Kiwi and others are having a difficulty with hackers (must be c-dale owners) messin with the site.

I am almost to terminal build myself:

"wife" ridden 856 with Risse Genesis on order, Hope XC/Syncros hoops with Conti Explorer Pro tires and Hope skewers, XT dual hydrolic disc front / mechanical rear shifter connected to 9.0 v's XT disc, 00 Marzocchi x fly Z1, FSA crank/BB/stem, Titec post/bar, crank bros pedals, Fizik Ti saddle, Cane Creek s6 headset, XT front mech/cassette, XTR Rear mech/chain

Once the Genesis is in. I should be GTG.

Thanks for letting me use your post to get that off of my chest....

If you have a url for the image (i.e. if it's already somewhere on the web), just type your pic's url here but use "[" brackets instead of "<" brackets...

Can't wait to see it.
K2 5000 Large w/Avid discs, Bontrager Race Disc Modified wheels, Manitou Minute, Swinger 3-way
K2 5000 Med ("wife's") w/Avid V's, Mavic CrossLink wheels, Manitou X-vert, Risse Astro-5

Cheers for that - here goes then, got them on photobucket 'cos I've seen other people here do it that way.

It really rides very nicely and I only waited 10 years for one! Need to get used to riser bars as I've always ridden stretched out to flats before. Sorting out an order for a Risse Astro 5 for rear while the exchange rate works in my favour. Haven't weighed it yet, but feels lighter than my 657.

cheers

First off, It's March. Some of US have nothing but snow to look at. Please, photog your bike in gloomy/ snowy conditions, as it will please the lot of us. Thanks in advance. Very nice bike, I must say, but I'm sure if you took pics in gloomy weather it would be just ok. Don't mind me,I'll be cranky for another month or so. Thanks anyway................

That is gorgeous!!!!!:-)

It looks like it could be right off the showroom floor. I think you are really going to like the Risse on the back. I have air on the back of mine and it is magic. Not so good on the front.

Again, your 957 is a real head turner.

Is this better rightturncycle? To be fair it rained all the day before and all the day after, been riding upto axles in water in places.

Did look at trying to do proper retro, but buying second hand wearing parts at two/thirds new price didn't make sense. Not quite so showroom in flesh, some pitting under frame and decal peel. Still lovely mind.

Shovelon - thought you had the genesis on the front sorted, is it still not so good? Was wondering about going that route but remembered someone had some issues getting it set up. Was it you that had to keep sending it back?

cheers

If you could photoshop about 3 feet of snow all around, you'd be spot on!. Today we have 40 mph winds blowin snow all over. Blizzard like and frigid for sure. Days like these I think I'll never see the trails...
:(

Once gain though, Beautiful bike!!

100 psi on the front( risse genesis. Lots of stiction with tight bushes. Might have it broken-in in about 10 years.:-)
