Removing Paint

What do you use to strip paint off alloy frames. I've tried normal paint stripper but it's not to the job,the paint seems very tough going

I used a product called Nitromors,it takes a few goes though,
as with most paint strippers you will still need to rub
down some of the hard to get at points.

i nitromorsed a nishiki alien frame back in the day, which is stripped in minutes. Just used a paint brush to get it into the awkward bits.

Evil stuff when i took the lid of the tin it spat out and ended up with a bleeched left eyebrow and a few nice whiter than white splats across my face.

Health and safety wasnt such a big thing back then

Simon & I both stripped 856's and both agree that it's a brutal job.
(But Simon likes hard work!)
There are a few threads on this - and there were pix in the galleries - but it's really worth the effort.

If you do go with the bare aluminum (aluminium for you brits) put something clear over it. Sweat droplets will make turn your shiny bike into white powdery aluminum oxide FAST. And no one wants rusty aluminum!

I've started stripping the frame now so there's no going back !!!!

I've preetty much got the frame stripped but is there an easyer way to clean up the welds/tight places. that black stuff is a sod to move

Only way I know is to use a toothbrush with nylon bristles and Knoristal polish.

I used that coarse wire wool that you do your washing up with (not the fine stuff). It's the stuff that doesn't rust, you know what I mean?

oh dear........I wanted to have the front of the bike black and then blend it into the polished bit( I did polish the whole frame) but got carried away with my blending and ended up doing too much and painting the whole frame black(what a tit!)

Just waiting on my brother in law printing up the stickers and that should be it(unless I go back to the polishing the black off)

Fitted some xt bits and bobs as the bike was in a  preety much screwed up state when I got it.

Removed the girvin GDT's off the front(very very stiff)

not looking too bad.







oh, went for my first ride on it and went straight over the bars due to a 'hidden' hole in the undergrowth........not a good start
