yes, this sounds plausable because some of the early NR2 shocks broke-whilst-riding on the x57 bikes. I saw one break at Swinley Forest (Nr London, UK) and whilst the shock didn't split into tiny pieces; the piston snapped and the swingarm was right up withe strut wedged against the seattube.
