Nooooo!

Just what are you trying to do?

If it was me,(and I am ;)), just unscrew one fork leg and take it off. Change whatever and regrease. Then do the other side.

Swaping out the shock is easy enough by removing the top bolt, then the bottom. If the shock won't come out, then unbolt the upper link at the steerer clamp, swing it out of the way and pull the shock upward. I had to do this with my smartshock.

Spill the beans man!  [smiley=furious.gif]

just want to do some "explorative surgery".

Check the pivots, and check "stuff"?  Clean everything and either grease or oil the pivots.

Time to look for some softer springs too :S

yes clean and grease, marvel at simple yet clever crosslink, revel for a while with smooth ride...repeat
download the crosslink manual once you have done it a couple of times its no problem. If you do take it all to bits getting the seals in the bottom shock mount is tricky,or am i thinking of my old vector....?

the bottom can be tricky. you don't want to damage the two fat o-rings on each side. You need to be "verwy, vewy caweful" or that axle bolt will bite off a piece if the latter o-ring is off at all.

i usually will mount the top of the shock, but not tighten the bolt, then wiggle and poke and slide and make sure the axle goes through smooth, then cinch everything down.

the x~link has a lot of parts but is forgiving...ie , you don't have to follow exactly steps one through whatever like with the Mega~Air. Just use a syntheic grease, the pivots do not need to be swimming in it, either and torque to specs.

oh if you remove the spring from the shock be sure you don't rotate the shaft, stick it in a vise or something if you need to. same goes for installing the ratining rings....don't rotate the shaft.
