Picked it up today
« on: March 10, 2006, 11:17:02 pm »
Okay I picked up my Whyte46 today so here's some
pic's and the spec  :P,
then I'll shutup about it and stick with the real issues
for this site  ;D
Anyway here we go
Maverick DUC32 fork with maverick hub,
Fox RP3 Shock (with the upgraded seals),
Whyte sealed bearing conversion for the Fox RP3,
Hope M4 brakes upgraded to floating rotors 200mm front 180mm rear,
Goodridge hoses,
Hope rear hub,
Mavic X717 Disc rims (black),
DB spokes (black),
Oversize Easton carbon monkeylite bars,
SDG Ti railed saddle,
Lockon grips,
Full XT transmission,
Continental Vapor 2.1 kevlar bead tyres (standard is 2.3 but I went for 2.1 as this suits where I ride better IMHO),
plus the usual 4" and 6" travel front and rear,
Quad link rear syspension system,
Big gripper dropouts,
etc etc etc  [smiley=laughing.gif]

Yes,sort of  :P I had the Hope floating rotors fitted and the
standard gold caliper caps swapped out for the red ones.

Haven't had the chance to weigh it properly but claimed weight is around 28lbs,
mag tests seem to confirm this,
it does feel a couple of lbs heavier than my 856 so
its probably about right.

What a beauty! I'd go for one of those if I could afford it! No seriously, I think that would be at the top of my top 3 list...

What exactly is meant by "floating" rotors? I love the red highlights!

I'm just curious though, how tall are you? To have a saddle that gives you that kind of a bird's-eye view of a 6 inch dual crown fork, you must be pretty tall (or at least have really long legs!)

Now, if only it came with Mavic Crossmax wheels... (I just LOVE the look of them, not to mention that they're incredible wheels).

K2 5000 Large w/Avid discs, Bontrager Race Disc Modified wheels, Manitou Minute, Swinger 3-way
K2 5000 Med ("wife's") w/Avid V's, Mavic CrossLink wheels, Manitou X-vert, Risse Astro-5

Thanks  ;D
Well I'm 6' 1" with  an inside leg of 34" and tend to pedal with my heel raised slightly, though that saddle
height is not set to my best position yet, still some tinkering to do  [smiley=laughing.gif]
Hope floating rotors, well I really don't fully know the
tech info on them apart from being sooooooo cool
and much lighter but I believe the reason is better
heat disapation with the spider being aluminium,
also I think they are less prone to warping,
not sure where the floating comes from unless its
because the spider and rotor expand at different rates, must find out more.
Hmmmmm crossmaxs,couple of problems
first they're French,
second I'm not sure the hubs are compatable with
the Maverick dropout or the rear Whyte big gripper dropout system,
I think (at the moment anyway) only Hope does hubs that will fit front and rear and Maverick just supplies a front with the fork.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nice!but surely im not the only one to nice the 2 faults with it?
1, red floating discs and piston caps?  do they not do blue to match the forks? a fashion `faux pas` if ever i saw one.
2, wheres the carbon?

seriously though, gorgeous bike if you ever put it on ebay ill be there again!! just wish `er indoors would allow your `faux bar` into the house otherwise i would have made you an offer.
an oz is for life , not just for xmas!
