For UK fellows - postage question
« on: February 26, 2006, 11:06:25 pm »
Hi people from UK.

I live in Portugal and I want to send a '97 Animal frame from UK to Portugal.
What's the cheapest way to do this?
I tried ParcelForce, but according to the site's calculator, it would cost over £100 pounds to send it here (much more than the price of the frame), not because of the weight, but because of the volumetric weight calculation.
The frame is in the south east coast of England, in Ramsgate.

Can anyone help me with this?

Regards, Ricardo.

Thank you.

But the problem is the same. That price only applies to a pakage with less than 20 Kig AND 4 cubic feet, which means that the frame would exceed these volume, despite of being much lighter. Considering the volume, it would be much more expensive than that.
Nevertheless, I asked for a price on the shipping...

can the seller take off the swingarm ???
had the same problem with a frame i bought from germany
told the seller to remove the shock and pivot the swingarm up / down
thus reducing the frame to half it size
he couldn`t understand me on account of not too good english
but he agreed to pay the extra postage as he quoted me a lot less originally
when i recieved the frame , i did what i had explained to him and sent a photo
he was gutted , had he did this the frame would have been inside the measurement required for the cheaper shipping
try it ....

I asked him before but still no answer.
I don't believe the swingarm will swivel much up or down. It is a large frame with an aluminium swingarm and the bridge the swingarm has would touch the downtube of the frame. I believe it would go up just a few degrees. If he can take off the swingarm, that is another story... I hope so.

£100 pounds for Parcel Force international std seems too high to me.

WE send out quite a bit to Europe with them and they have never charged ona volume basis - just weight.

I would have said about £50 for a frame but I will check the pricing at work tomorrow.

Thank you, Sprucey.

I really need this frame, but I don't want ending up paying  this amount for this.
If it is just weight, then it wouldn't be much.
Even if it is volume, the box (or wraped item) would have a reduced width...
I hope you can help me find a solution for this...

Cheers, Ricardo.

Hi Whisperdance,

I am a co owner of an internet mail order busines selling bike parts and accesories - www.ukbikestore.co.uk

We often send frames out overseas.

So far as I know there should be no real restriction on volume. A frame in a normal frame box should be fine as far as volume is concerned.

The Parcelforce book gives the following costs:-

International standard service  to Zone 8 (Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece)

Up to 5kg = 30.25GBP
Upto 7kg = 34.05 and up to 10kg = 39.75

This is for their international std service which is approx 4-5 working days.

Their Euro 48 hour service is now restricted to delliveries to Business addresses but you may be able to get it delivered to work? It's quicker and more reliable.

Up to 5kg = 41.00
Up to 7kgs = 46.60
Up to 10kgs = 55.00

These prices should give you some idea about costs.

I hope this helps?

Best regards,

Sprucey

Again, thank you very much, Sprucey.

I told the seller what you have said here.
I hope it helps too... just waiting for him to contact me.

Cheers, Ricardo.
