New company making the crosslink?
« on: January 18, 2006, 05:41:25 pm »
Has anyone else seen the Look brand forks that look like an updated crosslink? I saw them on ebay. They are called Look Fournales. Ediscountbike has them. Are they any good? It says they can run discs or vbrakes. If anyone knows anything about them let me know. I am seriously considering one for my 757.
Thanks in advance

Hi Adam,

These forks have been around for a couple of years now. 2 members of this forum are using these already. One is K2perv. Look in his gallery for pictures.

Watch out for the size tough. What I have seen available is size small, which will not fit some of the bikes. Like my large 957 can't accept a small.

I doubt a Small would fit any of our bikes, as it's meant for <137mm Headtubes (inc. Headset)
a Medium will do 137-157mm
Large goes 157 to 172mm
and Xl is 172 to 187mm

I can't see them on eDiscountBike's website.....?
http://corporate.marketworks.com/StoreFrontProfiles/deluxeSFshop.aspx?sid=1&sfid=100961&c=0&search_text=fournales

Fournales tell me there is no possibility of modifying a Small into a Medium, despite there probably being just one or two unique parts...............

http://www.fournales.fr/site_ang/page_vtt/suspension_fourche11.html

I fancy a pair because of the increased travel (80mm), air shock and disk mount.............
...............still too scared to modify my Carbon X-Links to Disk.

Both Disk mount and V-Brake mounts are removable.

CONFIRMED! He has TWO of them - both small. :( Look up "Fournales" on E-Bay and they're both with a starting bid of $349.77 U.S.

These have gone anywhere between $350-500 U.S. in the past 2 months.

i keep seeing these forks on ebay and have been really tempted, i think i started a new thread on them in the summer, only trouble is the sizing, the small size is very small like colin says up to 137mm head tube which is tiny! plus the fact that they are only 80 grammes lighter than my manitous kinda puts me off but they are one seriously cool looking fork and in my opinion  they are what the x-link should have morphed into.

I thought that proflex x56 x55 and x57 had very short head tubes to accept the crosslink/girvin vector.I am certain my waybig 756 has a headtube around 130mm...

maybe ive got the wrong end of the stick here but i would have thought the measurement would be with the headset in situ, in which case both my med oz and xpx are 155mm top to bottom. the headtube is itself 130mm

Headtube on an Oz 122mm
on a worldcup frame (18" frame)120mm
Headtube sizes are given without headsets fitted, too many variables in various headset stack heights.

ive been doing a bit of ebay digging and have come up with the following about the fournales fork small up to 137mm i think it must be including headset cos the guy who is selling them on ebay says that the large fits
This fork is size "L"- (Large)  and will fit bike with steerer tube + headset 157, to 172mm

i pinched a bit of his ebay listing but i think the 137mm would include a headset ie its a small frame,  so a medium frame would need a medium size fork!

anyone want to buy a kidney? i fancy one of these! ;)

The Fournales sizing is given as the end result of the headtube WITH whatever headset you are running. The total stacked height of the two combined.

It should be viewed along the same line's as Noleen's Critical Size measurement with the CrossLink's. The measurement, after the fact.

It is said this fork has little tolerance at small bumps, a thing that crosslinks are acclaimed for...
Or you have a very hard fork with no sensivity for small bumps, or you have a bottoming fork at harder bumps.
I never tried one, so I would like anyone to confirm this...
