SID Rear shock and Hope MINIs on K2-4000

Hi Chaps, joined today and this is my first post!
Have a look at my photo album, I've put up some images of the bike.
I have fitted a SID XC rear shock and SID XC fronts, I have been running this setup for over 6 months now with no problems. the SID bolted straight on with the bushes that are supplied with it and 4 aluminium shims which I filed to fit. I had to file a small section of the frame mount to clear the top of the shock on full compression.
The ride has been transformed, not to mention the weight!, it is now lively, controlled and the rear end is firmer under pedal forces. I ride XC but attack the DH sections like a mad man and the bike just loves it.
The SIDs up front are light but a bit too flexy for me, I have a set of FOX Float 80 RLTs on order now
,
stupidly expensive but what the heck!
The other major mod is the rear disk mount, it was welded on by Omega and made from a Hope "blank" billet which they supply with the mounting holes and curved outer profile and u have to machine the inner edge where it goes onto the frame and then weld it in place. Omega also have the jig wich fits in the axle dropouts and positoins the "blank" (u can rotate it to get a good position). The weld is pure art!!!!, those guys are sooooo talented, mind u they make the best hand made some of the best Ti, carbon and alu road frames in the world so they should be!
any way just thought I'd pass on the info in case you guys are interested!, cheers Nigel.

Put the Fox on the bike and after you ride it you will wonder on how fast and plush the ride is now!.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies guys,
just another note on the welding:- out of interest, the chaps at Omega said they could only do 6000 series alu not 7000 as this needs to be heat treated after welding to regain its strength. They guessed that the dropouts on the carbon arms were 6000 by the look of them and that Easton normally use 6000 series so went ahead and it has been fine for the last 6-8 months of hard xc use.
I totally agree Zulu, can't wait for the FOXy Floats!!!
Just that no one has any and I'm on the waitin list, don't know why they dont push more out, the demand is definately there!!!! even at their mad prices, suppose you get what you pay 4 tho.
(£520 - $830) eek!

Epac m8,
Nice R1..., I had a Fireblade, the third ever in the UK!!! back in 1992 for 4 years!, and I'm still alive! do miss it but I was gettin too fast for my own good...so moved over to mtb riding full on, havn't looked back!
I Havn't measured the travel, but the eye to eye is the same at full extension, will let the air out and check in the mornin. The rubber o-ring marker on the shock moves right to the end when I've got the pressure right so I'm gettin the full travel from the shock.
I'll measure wheel travel and post.
Cheers.
Oz-sub,
Yes chap, hope we meet sometime, maybe a few beers - compare notes and stories etc, ur k2 looks cool, love the SUB!!, I want a 4500/5500/Oz but can't find one anywhere
I'm still looking if you know anyone, will pay a very good price, just a frame only would be best but a whole bike is fine!

Just to finish off, (I posted this on another thread),
The stock NR2 shock is 200mm eye to eye at full extension. I don't know how far it compresses tho.
The SID is 195 at full extension and 145 at full compression, which I measured as giving me 4.5 inches of travel at the rear axle.

I'm not sure how you measured the rear travel, but according to some of the engineers on this site, if you're really getting 50mm of shock travel, then that equates to approximately 5.3" of rear wheel travel. That's using a rough estimate of 2.7 as the travel ratio, which happens to be accurate within about 1-2 mm for any possible travel on this particular frame.

Thanks, thats probably right, it was difficult to be accurate on the wheel travel, but the shock is definately 50mm. I turned the bike upside down and measured axle to floor, then compressed it fully and measured again, not very accurate tho, saddle squashing, etc
Just tried again and it is more like 5inches, thanks. [smiley=nod.gif]
