rebuild kit for noleen mega air?
« on: September 18, 2005, 05:14:26 pm »
My mega air leaks. [smiley=coolfrown.gif]

The air valve threading on the shock is cracked or stripped out, when i got the shock it had a straw pressed between the threads and air valve to make it airtight and I have since replaced it with teflon tape that hold up alright, but i would rather have it fixed. I have to pump up the shock every couple of days and  i took it off a drop a couple days ago and most of the air leaked out. Which, if any rebuild kit is for me?

RK016, RK015, K013901? And could someone in the know explain these kits for me. Thanks

015 is the slider bearing kit to eliminate any movement between stanchion and slider,016 is the fork seals and wiper cap.3901 is a kit to enable to change travel between 75 and 100 mm.....a decent engineering shop will be able to make you a new cap,or it may even be able to be welded and rethreaded

the threading the air valve goes into appears to be made of plastic, like a sleeve inside the shock. that is what is screwed up and i figured if it is a sleeve then they should have a replacement.

So you are looking for the plastic cap part? Do you have one of the "special" wrenches for the top cap? (if that's the part we are talking about)

The wrench is handy for tightening and removing, not essential.  You might try backing off a wee bit instead of tighterning it further to see if that will help...sometimes it does...most of the time not.

If it leaks just after a few days I'd live with it and just hone your teflon tape skills and carry a shock pump with you on rides. ONe upsetting part of the Mega~Air is the plastic parts used on the fork.....parts like this and a few inside that require a pin spanner to R&R can cross thread and strip very easily.

good luck

as I do not think there are any parts available from k2 or Noleen for that matter other than the kits now. ??? ???

I could probably keep screwing the air valve in forever and it would never get tight, so i think the sleeves busted. Master the Teflon skill ehhh, oh well, If i can drill it out and re tap it i will try(I have some friends with skillz?

if you are talking about the metal air valve screwing into the top cap...not the top cap screwing into the stanchion...then maybe try a permanet fix with some thread lock or some bonding compound and pray that it's airtight.

  • It's only a little further to the top.

Mine leaked between the schrader valve and the top cap.  I just reinstalled the schraders using teflon tape.  Been good ever since.
