Risse and 98 Beast Frame - Go or No go?

I've searched for info before I posted regarding this subject.

I was going to buy the Risse for my 98 Beast, but then I talked to a guy who has gone through 3 Terminators for the same reason.  Broken shaft.


Ha Ha, I just realized how funny that sounded..

He says the shock can't take the stress due to the adjustable shaft on the Astros and Terminators.

Anyway, any feedback on this would be appreciated before I drop $350 on a new rear shock.

I have a Proflex 3000 and I blew through my Risse Terminator in less than 1 month.......it was still under warranty so they fixed it. I put the bike back together and next thing I know the bolt that holds the rear swing arm in place sheared off.......I'm putting the bike back together again with a new bolt and I plan to try it out tomorrow with ALOT less air pressure in the Risse ( I weigh 197lbs and set the air  to 250lbs for min rear movement during work commute, bike can't hande it).............I suspect geometric issues................but I will try with the new air pressure and min compression and rebound dampening and see if this solves the problem..............

I bought a new bike as a result of lack of reliability of my new K2 setup with Risse Terminator rear .....Rocky Mountain ETS-X70.........

I have had a Risse Astro 5 on my Oz for three years now. It works spectacularly well and I have not even had to add air in that time.

In my mind, the Risse shock is unbeatable.

Risse was really great about fixing my shock and getting it back to me on a timely basis............I was just surprised it failed so soon............I do think their shocks are high quality...........it's back on the bike and holding up well..........if it lasts I'll be one happy camper! We'll see!

Go for the Risse,you won't be disappointed,though I'd pick the Astro5 over the Terminator,used them both and prefered the astro,plus its usually slightly cheaper.

Ive a proflex 97 beast and as ive not used it for years its going to need a new or serviced and upgraded shock.

The current shock is the noleen nr2 if remember right, and ive spoken to cvi in the uk who service noleen and risse.

Im a lard arse about 17 stone so they recommend sticking with the noleen adding a harder spring, higher weight oil and it will be as sound as a pound.

If i keep the current spring i will snap the shaft as my weight and the preload will put too much stress on the shock, its best to run as little pre-load as possible.

The risse shock even with heavier oil would need to run at a high air pressure, they recommend 220 psi max although it will run higher, but it wont be as reliable and need servicing more and blow seals more often etc.

So you maybe worth sticking with the noleen and getting a different spring etc - depends if featherweight or lardy tank  [smiley=laughing.gif]
