Hi Guys,

Well, the baby isn't quite finished yet - still waiting for brakes, r.shock, f.mech, cables and a few other bits from America, but I couldn't resist sending in a couple of near-ready photos.

Looks great! But one thing is going to have to change! It's just not right to have a beautiful Thomson seatpost like that installed backwards! If you put it that way to decrease your reach to the bars, I would highly suggest getting a shorter stem instead (that stem is quite long). Moving your weight back relative to the bike will give you more stability on the trail, and having a shorter stem will also give you more precise steering control. Also, there's no way you could ride on that saddle tilted down the way it is unless you want to support most of your weight on your arms! For best results, saddles should be level or slightly nose-up (for most people - doesn't work for everyone).

I agree with you on the fact that the saddle should be level. But it is possible that to obtain optimal position on the bike (knee above cottombracket) the seatpost has to be placed like it is now. Depending on the way you are built ofcourse.

I'm not a huge believer in the "Knee over pedal" line of thinking (the so-called "KOP" system). It's a good start, but not something that should guide how you fit a bike. The only way to properly fit a bike is to experiment with different riding positions.

In my opinion, if you have to move the seat that far forward, the frame is the wrong size. If you have a non-typical build such as long legs and short torso, I think you're better off going with a smaller frame and a longer seatpost. The only exception I can think of off the top of my head is I've seen some guys who reverse the seatpost for a more forward position on a triathlon bike with aerobars. Of course, in this case, the stem is also really long. By moving the seat back and shortening the stem, you'd significantly reduce the risk of going over the bars (not a good thing!) without changing the reach overall.

Wow - lots of comments now!!! ;o))) Thanks for all of them!

Well - guess I should start with riding position. I'm a fairly big chap (6'1", 230lbs) and come from a Time Trial background (well done Matno!!!

). I like my weight forward, and most of the time, my weight is on the peddals - hence the forward seat and long bar stem. I am a long legged, long arms, short torso wierdo too, so shifting weight back on steeps is no problem either...

As for the angle of the seat, I have always found pointing downwards the most comfortable... (something to do with big balls?? [smiley=laughing.gif]) The other thing is when you add 230lbs to the back suspension, the angle of the seat does get a lot less...

I'm guessing that as I ride more seriously, my views will change - but for the moment, the bike feels absolutely awesome!!!!

Had one problem though - I got let down with the Magura HS33's, so using standartd Vees at the moment... Yuck!!!

I just fitted the Manitou Swinger SPV - now I have 6.1" of smooth rear travel..

Posted some new pics... Also ordered some new '05 HS33's, butI have 1 more week to wait before I can ride!!!! [smiley=yawn.gif]

Wondering what you think of the Alex wheels. I have considered the Alex Vectra D2 (this disc brake version), but can't find any good reviews on them.
