856 head tube questions

I was reacently given a Proflex 856 that is pretty torn up (its dented BAD and has a broken derailer hanger), their are no Proflex dealers in my area, I am thinking that it might be best to ditch the frame and keep the original front shcok (it is a Noleen, I think).  When I first got this frame I found this forum and rember someone saying that the 856 has a 1 1/8" headtube and the 1" noleen fork was held in place with spacers.  My question is can I take this beautiful fork, headset, and shims and put it on a new  frame with a 1 1/8" head tube?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes provided the frame you're fitting it to's head tube is the correct length approx 120mm,

Just checked a the vector2 fork manual and it say's a regular version (as fitted to an 865) is suitable for head tube lengths between 90mm to 125mm there is a tall version (not your's)for tubes 125mm to 160mm.
This should give you more flexability on new frame choice [smiley=nod.gif]

i bought a used 857 for my wife a few years ago off the net -
it arrived scratched, dinged and looking nothing like the pics    [smiley=furious.gif]

i had it sandblasted, took it home and jbwelded the dings - jbweld is supposed to be the best filling if you are going to have it powercoated, otherwise for painting, just about anything will do.  i took it back to have it powercoated bright yellow - total cost $50.00.  i had some old stickers and such and redecorated the bike -

i wouldn't give up on an old frame like that until it is officially dead -

kind of reminds me a bit of old "Krusty" -

You can buy headset reducer cups which will allow you to fit a 1" headset and fork to a 1 1/8th" frame.

Most good bike shops over there should either have them or be able to get them.

I am sory for not responding, I got kicked off the computer, I have decided to use the frame, it handels great, I havn't regretted my decision.
