Progressive vs. linear spring...

I have noticed most oem and aftermarket coil shocks run linear springs. What are the pro's & cons of linear vs. prog? Is pedal bob an issue w/ progressives? Progressives work great on MX's for stutter bump absorbtion to resisting big air jumps.Thanx

It depends a lot on the frame design. Many frames have linear travel inherent in their design. Others are "rising" or "falling" and I think you'd need different springs for each of them to get an ideal ride. I can't remember which type of travel the EVO's have. Perhaps a combination? (Somebody refresh my memory). Personally, I think a progressive spring is nice on the Evo frames (I'm switching back to progressive on my Stratos Helix Pro soon). Pedal bob is minimal on these frames no matter what spring you use.
Speaking of pedal bob, I think it's interesting how things have changed. I recall MBAction's review of the EVO (3.0 I believe) which basically said that the frame had virtually zero pedal bob. Now, with newer designs out, they would probably say that it has horrible pedal bob by comparison, but I don't honestly think that the improvements have been quite as dramatic as the biking "media" would have us believe. However, I'm sure that the EVO is still one of the better single pivot designs ever made. Certainly the best at its price point!
