I have a 9 speed Deore LX cassette that skips alot. I'm not sure if its the gears or the cassette. It mostly skips on gears (7) when i apply pressure. I have also brought a new 9 speed DEORE LX chain. What can possibly go wrong?

If you've fitted a new chain to a worn cassette then thats your problem, replace the cassette then you'll be fine, I've had the same problem in the past,if you let a chain and cassette wear out together over a long period of time then when you change the chain alone you find the cassette has worn to far, some always change both when required, some change there chains more frequently thus reducing the cassette wear, its up to you but both ways keep a reliable chainset.

Ricky,
it is probably caused by one of the things that simon said, but if not, it could be that your rear der. or der. hanger are bent so that not everything is lining up correctly.
this has happened to me several times. it this is the problem, the der. and/or hanger can be easily bent back into alignment.
