who has an 80 mm fork that they like...
« on: May 07, 2004, 03:23:53 pm »
I'm about to make the jump to another fork...I think.  I like my Mega Air, but the parts are getting few and far between.  If you ride a bike meant for 80 mm ( a true xc ride), does anyone have any recommendations (sp?)?  I weigh 200 lbs, and don't race.  I don't beat-up equipment too much, but that still doesn't hide my desire to go fast, and it sure doesn't hide the weight of my big arse.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Marzocchi Marathon SL at 85mm travel is a great fork.
I am lighter than you, at 170 lbs. but fork should work well for anyone's weight.

I'm a fan of the older Marzocchi Z forks.  Have a Z5, a Z4 and a Z3, all air spring models.  They are simple designs that are easy to service, maintain and adjust, and they work very well.  The models with the cast in arch can take a pretty big tire.

With many new forks going for upwards of $500, these older ones stack up pretty well in my opinion.

I'm using a Fox 80RL which has been the best XC fork i have ever ridden.

I have an 85mm Marzocchi MX Comp fork that was also nice, but after riding the fox it doesn't seem as good as I remember it..
