Replacing Vector 2 with Cross-link on 855?

Great to see this forum is still alive after all these years!



So I have an 855 with a Vector 2. What do you think about replacing the Vector with a Cross-Link that came off of a K2 Oz model?   Looks like it will change the geometry quite a bit by raising the front end a couple of inches. Whould this be disaster? Could I compensate with a lower stem angle?

Hi there.  I have a crosslink on my 856 and I just compared it to my vector 2.  There should be no change in geometry of your bike.  Your stem will be higher but that is it.  The axle to lower link length is almost exactly the same.  So bike's geometry doesn't change, but rider position will.

You can probably go with a 0 degree stem but a negative rise probably will not work.  Maybe if you use a very long stem(like 150mm), you can get the handlebar clamp out far enough to clear the upper link under full compression.

Have a look at the pic of my bike with it's old setup.  This stem would not work because it would contact the crosslink under full compression.

the only issue is you have to buy a new stem and a new headset cos you will need at least the 1 and 1/8 bottom race.The vector is a 1 inch steerer and of course the crosslink will be 1 and 1/8.The headset is actually 1 and 1/8 and set of spacers allow the use of the 1 inch vector.I too have done the vector/crosslink swap(on my 756)

My old headset worked fine.  But I did end up replacing it... the diacomp headsets are not very good.

But like Kiwi said, you will need a new stem.
