Does anyone ahve a decent picture of a Risse Genesis to suit the rear of a 855? There is not one on the Risse website.

Here is the one on my 856

The part of the shock that mounts to the strut is flat.

Here is a pic of another type of genesis shock but you can see the smaller diameter part that mounts in the frame by the seatpost better. The one for a proflex has built-in bushings that this shock does not. Also, the shock in the second pic has an eyelet at the bottom instead of the flat interface on an 855 specific Genesis.

is that a x55 strut tho???my strut is completely smooth cross the bridge whereas yours is not?

Hi Kiwi. Yes, I have an x55 strut on my 856 because it is quite a bit lighter.

I find the struts interesting because I have an 855 and 955 frame both of which came brand new with an x56 strut.

From memory I bought the 955 quiet early in the year as well with the 855 coming later. As some people know I have had a bracket made up that fits most standard shocks. At the moment I am running a Risse Genesis, but I have previously run a number of different shocks. I just have to factor in the bracket when working out eye to eye lengths.

Hey Sammydog. Did your 855 and 955 have ODS units when you bought them or just the elastomer-only shock?

Not sure exactly on the difference so I will descibe what came on them.

The rear shock was basically two elastomer cylinders, each of a different stiffness. These were mounted on what looked like a very basic shock which had preload adjustment. I will post pictures when I take some of the shock mount I have made. Both bikes were the same.

I didn't get girvins on the front as I swaped them in the shop for some manitou comps. They were a great fork in their day.

just noticed your used pic of the two bikes has the 955 that looks almost identical to the design of my 855. Could mine be a reconditioned 955?

I have both a 955 and 855 frame sitting in the garage. Looking at the frames when they are not bukllt up the only difference appears to be

that the 955 is polished while the 855 i painted red.

The 955 has a red anodised seat clamp while the 855 is black.

I really can't see much difference between the frames. I may be wrong but I think the difference was the spec that came on the complete bike.

the difference between the 756 and 856 was mostly component spec,plus the fact the 856 had the ods units and the 756 didnt.The 756 was mostly LX type spec and the 856 was mostly xt spec.I had heard that the 9`s use better quality tubing and were made in the USA rather than Taiwan Frame design is the same tho
