C.A.D Drawings
« on: February 27, 2004, 01:42:52 am »
Just thought I'd mention that I've uploaded to the files section a C.A.D drawing of my replacement seatpost insert for a carbon frame, also a C.A.D drawing of the through shaft I also had made to convert a carbon frame (done both carbon and aluminium s/arms now)to sealed bearings both are accompanied with a 3D picture for anyone who may be interested.Simon [smiley=nod.gif]
opps had trouble loading and then three of the same pages popped up.

Simon,
great stuff, thanks very much for posting it.
I also see in the files section that you listed all the parts you used for the sealed bearing conversion.
1.are the dims the same for both the al and carbon swingarms?
2. would you (you may have already) make an exploded view showing how you assembled all the parts?
3. how does the ride with carbon swingarm compare before and after the sealed bearing conversion?

thanks again for all the great info. these seem like it might be a very worthwhile conversion.

1.Yep the diamensions are exactly the same.
2.There should be a picture in the files section and in my gallery showing the shaft with one end assembled, the only change I've made is, instead of 1x2mm shim and 2x1mm shim each end is to have 2x2mm shims per end instead, the assembly is dead easy, offer up s/arm,slide in shaft, fit shim, fit bearing, fit shim, fit bearing, screw in flanged retaining bolt, repeat other side, torque flanged bolts, centralize s/arm,nip up pinch bolts, job done,I'll see what I can do regarding an exploded view of an assembed shaft.
3.Only can vouch for the Al s/arm,done my best to try and break it,feels much smoother and more compliant on small bumps, the Carbon conversion I did for Nigel (ProflexGB) I'm still waiting for him to finish assembling it and give a ride report,I know he had no trouble assembling the pivots though,I just supplied the through shaft, shims, and reamed out the pivots for him,the bearings and bolts are just off the shelf items. Hi everybody,

Sorry for not keeping up with the posts, no excuse!  :-[

Sorry Simon, should have replied earlier m8ty, thanks for everything.

As Simon said I got the bearings and Ti M8 bolts myself and Simon had the shims and shaft made for me and reamed out the pivot points on the swing arm.

It all went together so easily and looks and feels great, it is weird to lift and feel the swing arm just fall back down with absolutely no resitance! It has to improve the smoothness/small bump compliance of the back end in a big way!  ;D

I havn't quite finished building up the bike yet and will post some pics soon.
