Finally, some action pics...
« on: December 30, 2003, 12:10:33 pm »
I think these are actually my very first pics of me riding my 5000. Pretty sad considering I've had it for 3 1/2 years! I'm just not much of a picture taker (or more accurately, not much of a camera-lugger). At any rate, these are a couple of fun pics my bro and I took on a recent ride at Graham Hills park, about 30 minutes north of the Bronx. Great bike park. Unlike many of our local parks, this one seems to be primarily designated for bikes (as opposed to having "No bikes" signs everywhere like some do).

Here's my brother riding the wife's matching 5000. Makes a great guest bike!

Matno, it's nice to see pictures of members so we can picture a face with who we are talking to. What type of camera did you use?

I've lugged a camera on a few rides but always just took the "taking at break" pics.

Good stuff, Matno

It was my brother's Canon. Powershot S230 I believe? (Digital Elph). 3.2 megapixel. Takes decent pictures and is very small. Even takes surprisingly good low-res video clips. Unfortunately, he forgot to charge it before our ride, and those were the only pics we got. Could have had some really nice ones on that ride (my brother is a nut). I reduced the picture quality so that people with slower connections wouldn't have to wait forever to download. The originals were slightly better.

I'm actually looking to get a digital camera in the next month or so. Can't decide if it's worth the extra cash to get a higher resolution cam or not. I am in love with the Pentax Optio 555, but am having a hard time justifying $400-500 on the present budget. 5mp with 5x zoom is very tempting though! 3mp ain't bad though, and a heck of a lot cheaper...

Any recommendations?

What, you can't see my face in the pic under my name with every post I make? (Hey, that actually IS my FACE!) I guess it is kind of small though...

Matno,
Check out the Canon S70. It's not as small as the Elph, but it takes great pictures and cost $260 -$299. Not bad for a 3.2MP camera with 3X optical zoom. It fits it in my Camelback cell phone case  on the front strap for easy and quick access. Look at my gallery to see the picture quality. I was so satisfied, that I bought one for my son also. Unfortunatlty, I'll be buying another one for myself because mine was stolen last month! Lets see, that'll be 3 in 9 months.

I assume you mean the A70? It is a good looking setup. Has lots of great features for the price.

is that Bronx as in NY?

I wish I had known because when i lived on e62nd st in NYC I got in loads of trouble for riding in central park.  I didn't know it was illegal and the cops in the little electronic buggies were no match for me on a razorback anyway!!

Yup. Far as I know, that's the only Bronx there is! I'm so close to Westchester that there are tons of riding options for me, provided I'm willing to drive 15-45 minutes. Still haven't done the Trumbull scene, but I hear it's pretty good, and not too far. Sadly, I don't get in nearly as much riding as I would like. I just don't have much spare time, and my wife figures that time spent riding should be equaled by time spent watching the kids while she gets stuff done...  [smiley=bomb.gif]

Good old Central Park cops. I've seen a few on mountain bikes, but I've often wondered if they intentionally assign guys to bikes when they feel like they "need" to ride to lose weight... :o I doubt some of them could catch up to my two year old.

he he, of course, me being the scotish lad abroad thought it would be fine to ride up and down the big stones in central park and I did some fast rides through "the wilderness" at night.   I also got pulled for riding the 'wrong way' round central park.  how anal retentive is that?  it is FAR more fun to go the other way and a lot more fun not to stick to the roads!

I told the guys at work that there were loads of small animals with long tails in the tunnels.  they laughed and told me they were rats.  we don't get them that big!!

Better tell that brother of yours to keep his wagger in his mouth, or he'll end up w/ half a tonque after the next drop!

Ha! You can tell him. I don't want to mess with success. That kid has been doing that tongue thing for 28 years now, and he pulls off crazier stunts than most people have ever even seen. I've seen him drop more air on snow skis than I would even THINK about jumping into water (and I've jumped from 60 feet!) I've also seen him ride sicker terrain on a mountain bike than should be humanly possible for someone who has only owned a mountain bike for a total of 2 months in the last 12 years.... He's just one of those naturally coordinated people who make the rest of us look bad. So far, he's only broken bones 7 times, which ain't bad considering that he's done lots crazier stuff than I have, and I've broken bones 7 times too!  :o (We're cursed with small bones).
