Not too shabby when you consider that it came with a frame, wheelset, handlebars, stem, headset, seatpost, saddle, bottom bracket, and cassette.  



Perfect for me since I already have a crankset and rear sprocket for my single speed project. Now all I need is grips, pedals, and brakes. Unfortunately, the budget is seriously tight so it may be a little while before this project is completed... (Anyone know where I can pick up a decent set of V-brakes, brake levers, pedals, and grips for a total of $30?

I'm trying to keep this project as "ghetto" as possible so I can actually feel comfortable locking this thing up outside the post office/grocery store/etc here in the Bronx. I'm hoping this plain silver frame is ugly enough. One of these days, I'll probably splurge another $20-30 on those "locking" quick releases for the wheels and seatpost. Seems like a better solution than just bolt on skewers since you can't open them without a special tool...

That's good, shipping is almost more than the bike.Another great find. For what most of the guys on the SS forum spend on single speeds, you could buy a built up  Maverick. They truly dislike gearies. I recently converted a candy apple red Klein into a SS. Uses a 1" steerer, and a ridgid fork. Talk about light.I  use it for commuting and around town, alot of fun. Can't find the pic at the moment. Rich

I'm definitely interested in going full rigid at some point. I just couldn't pass up this frame/fork combo deal for now. If anybody has any recommendations for a decent rigid fork let me know. I'm not really wanting a bomb-proof trials type fork, but I don't want one that won't handle a little heavy use either. Mainly I want something that's forgiving - so maybe I should just stick with the shocks...duh! The only thing holding me back is that I want something light (which is a goal I don't think I'm achieving with this particular setup. Oh well...)

As for cantilevers, I'm not a big fan of them (mostly because they have to be adjusted fairly regularly to keep them working just right). Plus, I don't think the frame or fork has cantilever hangers on them.

My big disappointment of the week was when I found a decent set of discarded platform pedals. They had crummy bearings but a rebuild and a lot of grease helped quite a bit. Then I realized that they were BMX pedals! (1/2" threads) DOH!  

I do have some matte-black spray paint that might look good on this frame... We'll have to see.

You can come pretty close to that at Nashbar right now.  Can't vouch for the quality of their cheapo brakes but they have a good return policy.

I got the brakes.  I thought it was going to take me a while to find all the stuff I needed for my frame, but then I found this on eBay:

Cranks, bottom bracket, front & rear derailleurs, shifter/brake combos, all Shimano.  $37.50.  It's 7-speed, but here in south Florida we don't have much elevation.
